Senior Agricultural Regulatory Inspection Officer

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated and inspiring individual to take on the role of Senior Agricultural Regulatory Inspection Officer, working with our new Agriculture Regulatory Inspection Officers.- use your experience of agricultural issues in Cumbria & Lancashire to regulate, enforce and deliver environmental benefits, working alongside our existing Agriculture Senior Environment Officer. - work with area specialists planning our activities delivering environmental benefits in our priority areas - report KPI data to National, tracking the progress of our Agricultural Regulatory Inspection Officers against their targets - be the lead officer for the Agricultural Regulatory Inspection Officers, providing sector related support, advice and guidance, and participate in site visits. - provide advice and guidance to the agriculture sector, including farmers, the NFU and other stakeholders and other regulatory bodies, working specifically in Natura 2000 priority catchments. - work with the department leadership group identifying skills gaps and prioritising tasks based on available resource and national and area targets. - have a good understanding of incident management be prepared to fulfil an Environment Management Duty Officer role or equivalent. You will work as part of a team to deliver environmental outcomes, delivering the goals of our 25 Year Environment Plan. The team - "Cumbria and Lancashire is a diverse area, encompassing rural Cumbria and the Lake District and the urban centres of Preston and Carlisle. - Defra have tasked the Environment Agency with delivering 4000 farm visits by the end of the year, and the Agriculture Regulatory Team is instrumental in achieving this target. Focussing on improving compliance with regulations to reduce diffuse pollution, taking a catchment approach and building on the success of last year’s work" Experience/skills required - have significant experience regulating the agricultural sector - you will need to have a good understanding of agricultural regulations. Your knowledge and experience allowing assessment of farms and coach and mentor staff to gain compliance with nitrate vulnerable zones, Farming Rules for Water, Environmental Permitting Regulations (pertinent to agriculture) and the Silage, Slurry and Agricultural Fuel Oil (England) Regulations (SSAFO). Many farms fall short of the storage requirements for SSAFO and you will need to demonstrate how you manage your staff to prioritise any risks and seek compliance with farming regulations - be able to motivate, coach, support and develop Agricultural Regulatory Inspection Officers; - have well developed influencing and communication skills - be able to work with a range of external customers and partners - be able to work collaboratively with teams across the Cumbria & Lancashire Area to improve and protect the environment.
