Assistant Support Practitioner

We are looking for a confident Assistant Support Practitioner with a passion for delivering outstanding care.
You’ll be working full time hours each week, making a positive difference to the lives of the people in our care at Cygnet Hospital Appletree.
Cygnet Appletree, near Durham, is a mental health hospital for women that includes Pippin Ward, a specialist PICU service and Bramley Ward, an acute service for women.

**Your day-to-day**
- Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Hospital
- Demonstrate positive attitudes towards patients, their families, staff, visitors and others.
- Support Patients who need assistance with independent living skills/ personal hygiene encouraging independence.
- To demonstrate non-discriminatory practice in all aspects of work.
- Assist Patients who have limited mobility or physical / learning difficulties, making the best use of aids provided.
- Carry out any levels of observation as directed by Nurse-in-charge.
- Under the supervision and guidance of trained Staff, care and report on the well being of Patients.
- Read care planning needs for Patients and complete written daily records as instructed by trained Staff.
- To support the development of the process, practices and delivery of Active Care and Recovery.
- Assist in a framework of social and therapeutic activities by interacting with Patients and helping them continue with hobbies and activities in the Hospital.
- Answer Nurse Call System, giving assistance as required, as well as answering the door and telephone appropriately.
- Carry out regular checks on Patients at intervals determined by trained Staff.
- Closely monitor Patients who may be confused and / or have behavioural problems due to learning difficulties/ mental health needs.To assist in de-escalation or Management of Violence and Aggression as required.
- Make visitors welcome and give them refreshments and any assistance they may require.
- Support/encourage patients to change beds, ensuring that rooms are clean, tidy - Activities of Daily Living.

**You are/have**
- An understanding of Mental Health Issues
- Understanding of Mental Health diagnosis
- Ability to communicate at all levels.
- Ability to work in a Team.
- Able to contribute to the planning of care.
- Sensitive & intuitive with the energy required to provide a trusting, stimulating & varied environment
- Passionate about empowering & supporting service user independence
