Citi enables clients to achieve their strategic financial objectives by providing them with cutting-edgeideas, best-in-class products and solutions, and unparalleled access to capital and liquidity. **Role Overview** That support and advice relates to a an extremely broad range of contentious issues, disputes and internal investigations. The matters advised upon are of varying significance and complexity and include civil/commercial litigation as well as contentious financialregulatory issues and ethics / conduct investigations. The workload of the team is extremely varied and, at any given moment, can relate to any business area or product and/or to any one or more of the 55 countries in which Citi does business in the EMEA region. **Responsibilities** The work involved and related responsibilities will typically include the following: - Leading internal investigations and inquiries into regulatory and/or ethical/conduct issues in connection with EMEA businesses. Producing verbal and/or written reports in relation to such investigations for Legal Seniors, Citi's Ethics Office and/or Regulators,as appropriate. - Working with Citi's Security and Investigative Services ("CSIS") team in relation to fraud-related and other investigations. - Working with local Citi internal product and country lawyers throughout the region. - Advising on disputes involving investment and commercial banking transactions, equities and fixed income sales and trading; transaction services (cash management, trade finance and securities & funds services); consumer banking; and/or private banking /wealth management. - Managing the conduct of regulatory and legal proceedings, criminal and civil, to include the selection and instruction of local external counsel and the ongoing management of related legal costs. - Advising upon the nature and effect of Court Orders received in connection with customers and clients (e.g. freezing orders; third party debt orders; insolvency-related court procedure etc). - Providing US/APac/LatAm Citi Legal colleagues with local assistance throughout EMEA in connection with cross-border litigation and/or with requests for information and documents received from regulatory authorities in other regions. - Working with Citi's Corporate Affairs team in relation to any related media coverage. - Advising on recoveries issues, including those arising out of domestic and cross-border insolvencies. - Assisting in maintaining a litigation reporting database and in the preparation of bespoke, periodic internal reports for submission to senior executive management; various internal governance bodies; and the boards of directors of Citigroup, Inc. and anumber of its subsidiaries. **Development Value** **Qualifications**: - Relevant experience should have been obtained either in private practice with a major law firm or in-house with another significant financial institution. - Witness interview and report drafting skills are a pre-requisite. - Banking or financial industry experience - Comprehensive knowledge of laws and practices - Experience of managing foreign lawyers, where cases span a number of jurisdictions would be an advantage. - Proven analytical and organizational skills - Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication - Bar licence in good standing to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction (UK and/or US preferred). - Fluency in spoken and written English is essential. - Familiarity with other European languages an advantage, but not a pre-requisite. - Basic IT / computer skills a requirement (Word, Outlook etc). **Education**: - Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience - Master's degree preferred - **Resourcefulness and commercial awareness** - ability to respond to business issues with workable solutions often under critical time pressure. - **Communication skills** - ability to relay precise information orally and in writing - both to internal management and external parties - in a concise manner. - **Ability to work independently**: - to include preparedness to take the lead in making appropriate recommendations to senior and middle management. - **Client Focus** - ability to deliver high levels of client service. - **Team approach** - ability to promote collaboration within own peer group and throughout the organisation. **Intellectual strength and sound judgment**: - ability to distil information rapid
