Your new role

National Highways currently has an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Risk Manager to join our busy team within the Smart Motorways Programme of our Major Projects Directorate in Birmingham.

What you’ll be leading on
- Producing timely, high-quality analyses of risk-based data, to support the SMP Risk Management team in the monitoring and reporting of risk performance.
- Supporting identifying, assessing, mitigating and reporting of risk management data throughout the project lifecycle.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues from within the SMP Risk team, Enterprise Intelligence team and wider programme to support the continuous improvement of risk management standards and capability.
- Supporting pan-programme assurance activities, as and when needed.
- Supporting the roll out and implementation of corporate and programme-specific risk management systems, tools and management processes across the programme and constituent projects, responding to stakeholder queries and escalating these to senior colleagueswhere necessary.
- Providing training in the relevant risk management system to individuals across the programme.
- Supporting the SMP Risk Lead and Risk Manager in day-to-day risk management.
- Managing the SMP Risk Management inbox, to ensure that incoming documents and other information are distributed to relevant stakeholders and filed appropriately and that queries are prioritised and acted on.
- Attending risk management National Highways Communities of Practice to improve knowledge and share best practices.
- Planning and managing own personal development, identifying any training needs required, to ensure technical skills, knowledge, awareness and understanding are up to date and relevant.

To be successful you’ll need
- Experience of working in a programme and project environment.
- Knowledge and experience in capturing, analysing and reporting data.
- Experience of building relationships with different stakeholders.
- Experience of working successfully in a team setting.
- Strong communication skills to enable clear and effective interactions across the programme.
