Support Worker for Young Adults

**Purpose of role**
To support young adults aged 16+ in supported live-in care within a house based near Trowbridge. We are looking for someone who is kind and compassionate to support these young adults with day-to-day life. We are looking for someone to support these individuals to become well rounded adults and set them up with life skills. This could include supporting them with school, college, job interviews and apprenticeships and daily living skills. Some individuals have come to us with a variety of different backgrounds they require support and guidance with how to cook, encourage personal hygiene and basic housekeeping. To support their future independence.
You will be part of a team, where the young adults are respected, listened to, and involved in as many decisions as possible. Emotional resilience is important to this role as the individuals that you will be supporting could have a range of history of being abused or trauma, emotional support may be required, as it differs to each individual and their needs.
You will be working alone in one of our houses that we have set up. These houses will be the young adult’s home, they will be within the home for long term. We ensure that the homes have a positive and welcoming environment for the individuals that will be living there.
**Care and support**
Give non-discriminatory care and support that values the diverse and unique qualities of each young adult. See the whole person and not merely a list of care needs. Carefully listen and observe how everyone prefer their care and support to be delivered on a day-to-day basis. Help them make their own decisions and to be as independent as possible.
Follow instructions in the care and support plan which has been agreed with each young adult. This may include:
- Encouragement of all aspects of personal careShowering and bathing
- Dressing and groomingToiletingTeeth
- Taking medicinesEncouraging, reminding; assisting and giving medicines
- Ordering and collecting prescriptionsReturning unwanted medicines to the pharmacy for safe disposal
- Eating and drinkingSupport the young adults to plan what to eat and drink.
- Gentle encouragement to eat and drink well.Support with Shopping, preparing, and serving food and drinks.Agreeing with the young adults how to store food safely and dispose of out-of-date produce.Gentle encouraging young adults to be active with preparations of meals and drinks.Gentle encouraging young adults to be active with clearing the table, washing up and keeping the kitchen area clean and tidy.
