Space Intelligence is a tech company based in Edinburgh. We are a world-leading supplier of spatial data to support investment in Natural Capital, including the development of Nature Based Solutions (NBS). Our mission is to make the world greener by enabling others to plan and monitor their forest protection and restoration projects.
Given the rapid growth of the company, we are now looking for a **Graduate Ecologist** to help support our senior technical team. You’ll likely be a recent University graduate in Ecology, Geography, Environmental Science or a related field, looking for your first job. Despite being early in your career, you’ll be the kind of person looking forward to getting stuck in from day one.
**Role and Responsibilities including**:
- Undertaking ecological site assessments using datasets and literature reviews.
- Reviewing and validating land cover and forest carbon maps
- Performing statistical analysis of ecological field data, including forest inventory plot measurements
- Supporting our senior technical team with report writing, and geospatial tasks to support report development (e.g. producing aesthetically pleasing charts and maps in QGIS, maybe using some R or Python as well)
**Profile/Experience**:
- Degree in Ecology, Geography, Environmental Science or related discipline
- Experience conducting ecological fieldwork
- An understanding of applied ecology, particularly in the tropics
- Effective and enjoy working in a team, while also being self-motivated and directed
- Flexible, and excited to adapt to the needs of a growing business
- Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, effective at prioritising long-term important and short-term urgent tasks
**Required**:
- Experience with GIS for environmental issues (you might be able to show us a map you’ve made as part of your degree course using QGIS or ArcGIS)
- Comfortable using Google Suite software (Gmail, Calendar, GDocs, Gsheets etc)
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly
- Be results-oriented, and able to focus on key tasks required to support the strategic objectives of the company
**Desirable**:
- Experience in vegetation and biodiversity field techniques
- Knowledge of R and/or Python
- An interest working in a mission focussed company addressing climate change and biodiversity loss
