**Clinical Skills**: To manage and lead the specialist behavioural Support Team. To ensure by attitude, approach and response the maintenance of good working relationships between staff, service users, carers/families, MDT and other agencies. To communicate effectively with a broad range of people which may incorporate sharing information across a wide variety of settings in line with best practice. To undertake lone home visits to individual service users/family/carers.
To ensure that the process of referral, assessment, planning and analysing of complex data, intervention and evaluation is efficiently and effectively carried out, meeting all standards as required by NMC and Black Country Healthcare Foundation Trust LD directorate and the organisation as a whole. To develop and implement specialist behavioural interventions/treatment/ management following assessments/planning and to develop care plan as appropriate. To monitor/evaluate specialist interventions/treatments and management programmes. To ensure that all assessments/interventions/treatments and management programmes which are delivered to service users/carers/families are in accordance with legal and ethical guidance/directions and best practice.
To carry out nursing duties strictly in accordance with the NMC professional code of conduct and ensure all junior staff do likewise. To clinically supervise junior members of staff. To ensure all policies and procedures are known and are adhered to by staff. To ensure adequate risk management strategies are in place.
To keep abreast of the philosophy of care, new concepts and developments, in the care of people with Learning Disabilities. Understand the Transforming Care Agenda. To actively contribute towards the clinical governance systems, taking responsibility as appropriate for quality and work towards the continuous improvement in clinical and service quality. To contribute towards the development of the service.
To undertake audit as necessary To undertake research and development Management: To plan & prioritise own and staffs workload, management of caseloads and maintain contact to clients as required. To represent the Behaviour Support Service at appropriate LD Directorate Service groups/meetings. To ensure inputting of data and development plan is up-to-date. To assist in recruitment and retention of staff.
To maintain personal safety and that of staff. To be able to manage and defuse highly volatile and unpleasant situations, which include verbal and physical aggression and conflict. To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post in order to provide a quality service. To contribute to the development of the future service plan for Behavioural support provision in the Black Country and to assist in the future development of the service in line with service/business planning of the Division.
**Administration**: To maintain up-to-date/accurate records including service user and service based documentation. To complete up-to-date/accurate documentation for IT systems. Training & Development: To provide education, training and advice to others (staff, students, family & carers). To participate in continuing professional development and other developmental activities, including post basic training in accordance with the NMC requirements and personal development plan.
To supervise/teach/support student nurses and others learners. To ensure staff have up-to-date/accurate appraisals and personal development plans To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post in order to provide a quality service.
