Base 51 are recruiting for a counsellor to work within our LGBTQI+ service, OutBurst
The successful applicant will work with our youth team and OutBurst Co-ordinator to implement a counselling programme for service users from the LGBTQI+ community. The role will include attending youth sessions to create relationships, offer support and information and break down barriers to accessing support, as well as one to one and group counselling (if appropriate), assessment of young people’s mental health and level of risk.
The successful applicant will be a qualified counsellor (minimum level 4 diploma) with accreditation (or working towards) from a recognised governing body such as BACP/NCS etc. and will have experience or knowledge of the issues that impact young people who identify as LGBTQI+.
Evenings and some weekends required.

**Duties**:
The post holder will be required to offer support and counselling to young people in our LGBTQI+ group, OutBurst.
You will attend youth sessions to help identify young people who may benefit from counselling support and break down any barriers to accessing support due to fear or stigma.
You will be required to offer one to one and group counselling sessions as appropriate, carry out therapeutic assessments, assessing risk and offering therapeutic interventions based on the individual needs of the client, process review, outcome monitoring and administration.
You will also be an active member of the team, working alongside counselling and youth work professionals to support service growth and improve service provision.

**1. **Main Tasks**:
1. To assist the Counselling Manager in ensuring all counselling is undertaken within the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
2. To undertake professional initial assessments of young people referred/self-referred into counselling, considering suitability of clients against eligibility criteria and risk factors and provide signposting or onward referral where appropriate.
3. To provide counselling to young people aged between 11 and 21 years old from the LGBTQI+ community.
4. To support development and delivery of alternatives to one-to-one therapeutic work i.e., group work, workshops, psychoeducation
5. Todevelop “informal” interventions with young people, where a more rigid approach would not be appropriate.
6. To deliver support during youth sessions to identify young people who may need specialised mental health support.
7. To assist in the assessment of the needs and risks of young people on the waiting list for counselling and prioritise according to their needs and risk to the young person.
8. To maintain confidential case notes and records in a timely manner ensuring that these are stored securely using Lamplight case management system.
9. To develop and maintain working partnerships with referral agencies and partners within the main Base 51 teams and externally.
10.To deliver services in accordance to the requirements of the funders.
11.To undertake ongoing monitoring of the service, in accordance with Base 51 requirements and relevant funding bodies.
12.To support in producing regular reports and case studies on the service as required by the Board, Chief Executive and funding bodies.
13.To carry out the evaluation of the service, with young people, as required
