At the National Animal Welfare Trust, we never stop caring for our animals and people. As a rescue and rehoming charity, operating five rehoming centres and three shops across the south of England, we are committed to improving the lives of the UK’s pets, helping around 1,500 animals each year.
**Purpose of the post**:
The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for ensuring that the Centre is properly maintained to a high standard and in good working order.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
**1. **Maintenance**
1.1. To be responsible for ensuring that the site is maintained to a high standard.
1.2. To ensure that all Health & Safety legislation is adhered to and the site is compliant with Health & Safety regulations.
1.3. To ensure that the site is at all times clean and presentable and free from hazards.
1.4. To ensure that all materials required are available as necessary.
1.5. To be responsible for a bi-annual stock-take of all tools and materials.
1.6. To complete pat testing of the centres equipment yearly.
1.7. To co-ordinate and communicate with all contractors as directed by the Centre Manager.
1.8. To ensure that all tasks allocated to you are carried out to the best of your ability and within the time frame expected.
**2. **Vehicles**
2.1. To be responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of all Centre vehicles, trailers, etc, ensuring that they are road worthy and fit for purpose.
2.2. To drive our vans as it is essential to transport animals to and from the vets and collect donations or goods to support our fundraising activities as and when required.
**3. **Events**
3.1. To assist at external and internal events, under the direction of the Centre Manager and the volunteer and Events Coordinator.
3.2. To ensure that Health & Safety regulations are adhered to.
**4. **Supervision**
4.1 To supervise and assist individual and groups of volunteers on maintenance tasks.
**5. **Other Duties**
5.1. To attend any Team and other internal meetings as requested.
5.2. To attend relevant training and personal development opportunities in order to fulfil the requirements of the post.
5.3. To adhere to all NAWT policies and procedures and assist the organisation in developing, implementing and monitoring them, including Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety policies.
5.4. To carry out any other duties relevant to the post as directed by the Centre Manager or Board of Trustees.
**Experience / Skills**
At least 2 years experience of supervising staff or volunteers including delegating tasks is desirable.
A range of skills appropriate to site and land maintenance
A flexible approach to cope with a varied and demanding workload
The ability work on your own and as part of a team
Full clean driving licence is required.
THE PERSON
- Please note due to our location it is preferable to be able to drive, or have your own mode of transport, as there is no public transport available to the Centre._
