Clinical Educator

The post holder will be a proactive role model who leads in the provision of clinical education and assessment of competence within Cardiology. They will have responsibility for all training and education requirements for the staff working within Cardiology.
The post holder will ensure that staff within Cardiology receive the appropriate training specific to their role and ensure that all competency and assessments are up to date. The keeping of accurate records with regard to all aspects of training is also a responsibility of the post holder. The post holder will also plan and monitor development needs for staff within the appraisal framework.
The post holder will ensure that all new staff to Cardiology receive an appropriate induction programme upon commencement of employment within the ward and will monitor and supervise their progress. There will also be a requirement to ensure the ward has a robust and up to date training needs analysis.
The Clinical educator role is to primarily educate staff within cardiology and influence the quality of the clinical learning environment by providing support, educational input and development activities for staff.
The role will involve working in practice the majority of the time and the post holder will need to be clinically competent and sufficiently experienced to do so. You will provide support and advice to the clinical team. You will also contribute to the development of educational resources to support learning and monitor effectiveness of inputs.
The role aims to enhance the quality of patient care and positively contribute to ongoing staff development.

Clinical/Professional
1. Work within the NMC codes of professional practice.
2. Responsible for keeping accurate records of all training/competency assessments for staff within cardiology.
3. Responsible for planning all training needs/competency assessments to ensure staff are able to deliver care within Cardiology.
4. Responsible for ensuring that staff are up to date with all mandatory training and competency assessments required to maintain registration and work within Cardiology.
5. Responsible for induction of new staff to Cardiology with a planned induction programme and to provide ongoing support.
6. Provide training needs analysis for Cardiology and keep it updated ensuring all training requirements are documented for staff.
7. Responsible for ensuring staff are up to date with medicine management training and trained in the appropriate method of drug administration in accordance with national standards.
8. Responsible for ensuring that all Cardiology staff are trained and competent to use any equipment required for the care of patients.
9. Deliver training/teaching as required.
10. Plan teaching/assessment programmes.
11. Assist and support nurses in providing advanced clinical practice, ensuring they are able to provide high standard of care to all Coronary Care patients.
12. Assist and support nurses in the assessment and planning of care for cardiology patients.
13. Assist the Senior Sister in advancing clinical practice at all levels. Ensure that best practice guidelines are available and used within the department
14. Provide high quality patient focused service in line with the operational plan.
15. Assist the Senior Sister in ensuring that the ward & department workforce is kept informed of all relevant issues relating to the delivery of the service.
16. Empower and motivate team members to maximize their knowledge.
17. Develop effective communication systems for staff, patients and carers. To ensure that all staff involved with patient care understand the need to keep the patient, relatives and others up to date with the patient progress
18. Ensure health and safety requirements are met and adhered to.
19. Lead in ensuring all education issues are addressed.
20. Present a dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic role model.
21. Attend and participate in meetings as required including providing feedback and disseminating information as appropriate.
22. Assist the senior Sister in dealing with competency issues concerning staff within Cardiology in accordance with Trust policy
