**Working hours**: 37.5 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Clinical Coder to join the Clinical Coding Team at Countess of Chester Foundation NHS Trust. Applicants will be willing to train to be ACC qualified. Knowledge of Human Anatomy and Physiology would be beneficial.

The role will involve extracting medical diagnosis and surgical procedures from medical notes. The Clinical coder then translates it into International and National codes using ICD10 and OPCS4 and the codes are entered onto the Patient Administration System which is currently Meditech. The department works to strict deadlines and a high level of attention to detail and accuracy is required.

Clinically coded data is used to record hospital activity for financial and accountability purposes. Diseases and other health information can be extracted, measured and monitored in order to inform service planning and development, with the ultimate aim of improving the health and health care of the users of the Trust’s services.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is a team player with excellent communication skills as well as a proven track record of problem solving and negotiation.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust consists of a 600 bedded large District General Hospital, which provides its services on the Countess of Chester Health Park, and a 64 bedded Intermediate Care Service at Ellesmere Port Hospital.

The Trust provides services in all of the surgical and medical specialties common to a District General Hospital with some specialist services. The Trust serves the whole of the local population currently in excess of 250,000 residents which geographically covers populations in England and North Wales.

The Trust strives to continuously improve and sustain the quality of its services for patients, providing care to more than 445,000 patients per year, with almost 4,000 staff working together putting quality and patient safety, at the heart of everything we do. The organisation provides a wide range of services offering health care to the whole spectrum of the population from birth to the end of life.
