**Head of Compliance, Health & Safety - UK & Ireland**
**£100k + Bens + Prospects**
**Leeds based.**
Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain and Service, and the Director Regional QSHE, EMEA where necessary, this key role is responsible for leading a positive, safe working culture through effective management of systems, procedures, activities and theworkforce across a number of sites.
Working with a team of 9, the post holder will play a major role in ensuring that the UK & Ireland sites are not exposed to the risk of HSSE incident, complaint or prosecution and will maintain accreditations to ISO and other industry standards.
An important aspect of this role is proactively promoting and embedding the importance of progressive safety culture, engaging with employees at all levels to adopt the right safety behaviours to ensure that standards are consistently exceeded. Working alongsidebehavioural safety, and in conjunction with the Operations Teams, the Head of Compliance is also responsible for improving process safety standards and performance.
This position will require both regional UK and Ireland, and overseas travel to contribute to the EMEA QSHE team.
**Key Responsibilities include**:
To provide health & safety expertise to all areas, ensuring that all operational activities comply with current health, safety and environment legislation, ensuring all HSSE policies and procedures are followed and are regularly reviewed.
To play a lead role in developing, influencing and promoting a positive HSSE culture throughout the business.
To drive forward both corporate and local safety requirements and best practice methods and develop/deliver awareness & training packages as necessary.
To assist in preparing HSSE strategies.
To engage with key stakeholders internally and externally within the business such as customers, Health & Safety Executive (Lead Inspector point of contact), internal & third party auditors, local councils, environmental agency, senior management and boardof directors.
To manage the investigation into incident /accidents and maintenance of reports and action required.
To keep up to date with appropriate legislation and regulation ensuring correct protocol is being followed.
Manage certified systems, including ISO, for the business.
To ensure that the Technical Services team provide the required technical, safety, and regulatory affairs support to the business.
To ensure compliance with COMAH, DSEAR and ATEX, EPR as well as the successful implementation of the company MAPP and process safety management system.
To manage the major accident hazard identification and risk assessment processes, including HAZID, HIRA, PHR, HAZOP etc.
To Ensure major accident hazard (MAH) risks are controlled to ALARP
To have ownership of safety related procedures and contribution to the creation/revision of other procedures as required.
Involvement in the preparation and revision of key permitting/licence documentation relevant to process safety such as the COMAH safety report, aspects of the EPR permit and hazardous substances consent issues.
**Experience required**:
NEBOSH Diploma Qualified.
Chartered Safety Professional CMIOSH.
Related experience within the chemicals or related sector.
Strong experience in Health & Safety Advisory/Management positions.
Experience in the chemical or related industry - demonstrable experience within an upper tier COMAH establishment is a high priority.
Experience of managing Regulatory inspections, particularly from HSE, EA or country equivalent.
DGSA qualification or knowledge of dangerous goods legislation, primarily ADR.
Enthusiastic with a hunger and passion to drive a positive Health & Safety culture.
Proven Interpersonal skillset - effective listener and communicator; positive attitude to engage, inspire, motivate, lead, support, mentor.
Full UK driving licence.
Excellent written & communication skills.
Excellent presentation skills in order to explain H&S issues clearly and in an engaging manner.
Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines, to prioritise and multi-task.
Sound judgement with the ability to analyse situations and information, developing pragmatic and practical solutions with local teams.
