HEAD OF MAINTENANCE
JOB DESCRIPTION AND FURTHER INFORMATION FOR CANDIDATES
Job Title: Head of Maintenance
Reporting To: The Bursar
Job Purpose: Reporting to the Bursar, the Head of Maintenance will carry out a range of multi
- skilled tasks with some experience across the following trades: Carpentry,
Decorating, Brickwork, Roofing, Paving, Groundworks, Landscape and Fencing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintenance of Grounds and Buildings
- Ensure that the fabric, fixtures, and fittings of the estate is maintained to a high standard and meets the
School’s current and future needs.
- Undertaking decorating and other general building maintenance work described on works orders, to a high standard of quality and in compliance with current standards and recognised good practice.
- Assist the Head of Grounds with preparation and maintenance of sports pitches and landscape gardens.
- Ensure daily and short-term maintenance of all areas of the school. This will involve both reactive maintenance and prioritising a short, medium and long-term maintenance programme.
- Assist the Bursar with an annual maintenance programme, cost plans for repairs and upgrades of estates.
- Scheduling contractors for major and minor works as required.
- Organise and manage third party contractors in line with company procedures where necessary.
Provision of Utilities and Estate Services
- To take responsibility for and ensure all utilities provision, including water, gas and electricity is effectively managed and that usage minimises wastage
- To ensure that boilers, lifts, air-conditioning, ventilation and mechanical equipment is maintained, insured and replaced as and when necessary
- To ensure that all contractors comply with the safeguarding rules and procedures set by the school
- To ensure effective rolling maintenance of routine tests, inspections and the annual Fire, Health and
Safety checks are completed as required.
- To act as the Fire Warden
Operational Matters
- To ensure the effective deployment of the Estate directing manpower to cover the setup, running and security requirements for all day to day operational; school and external lettings events and activities.
- To manage and liaise with the Lettings and Events Manager in the arrangements of external lettings
- To liaise with the Bursar in ensuring all facilities and equipment are maintained.

Skills and abilities Ability to work within a team as well as act on own initiative and be resourceful
Ability to work from instructions and accept advice
Ability to keep calm under pressure and keep issues in perspective

Excellent organisational skills with an ability to plan, prioritise and meet deadlines
