Senior Engineer Deputy FM -HMP Fosse Way

Here at Serco we are looking for a Senior Engineer to join us at HMP Fosse Way.
The Senior Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day organisation of work and the allocation of tasks, the tracking of work progress, stock management, and ensuring that planned and reactive maintenance plans meet the needs of both the operational demands of the establishment as well as the contractual requirements set by the customer.
Some of the other key accountabilities of the Senior Engineer are as follows:
Assist in the development of maintenance plans that ensure that the establishment is safe and compliant both with statutory requirements and with the requirements of the contract.
Plan and programme maintenance activities according to the SFG20 programme held in the CAFM system and prioritising work in a hierarchy of safety, compliance, and contractual requirements.
Ensure work is allocated according to the demands of the maintenance plan to trades staff daily.
Track, monitor and manage the progress of work and the productivity of staff to delivering the daily work plan.
Provide appropriate challenge and assurance to ensure that work is delivered to the highest standards.
Ensure activities are risk assessed and managed in accordance with such findings.
Ensure that tools and equipment are regularly inspected and are used in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
Oversee the work of contractors and ensure that they are behaving in a manner consistent with the risk assessments and method statements and that their work quality is regularly assessed and audited.
Act as an Approved Person for one or more of HV/LV electrical work (where qualified), pressure systems, confined spaces, work at height, and hot works.
Provide first line leadership (in line with Serco’s Governing Principles) such that all employees under the post holder’s supervision understand the tasking which the post holder is responsible for allocating and are actively monitored and managed to ensure high levels of productivity.
Maintain and seek to improve the safety culture and health/wellbeing within the team.
Organise the operation in a highly effective manner, ensuring planned and reactive maintenance is delivered in accordance with contractual demands.
Foster a culture within the team that reflects Serco’s core values of Trust, Care, Pride and Innovation.
Administer leave, sickness absence, expenses, and overtime in line with Serco policy.
Deputise for the Head of Facilities in their absence in dealing with staff management and development.
Monitors spend and financial commitments in line with policy and guidance, produce spend data as and where required.
Purchase spares and equipment required for the delivery of maintenance in the Contract in line with procurement practice and procedures.
Monitor and authorise overtime in line with J&I overtime policy.
Within the remit of delegated authority, make decisions on operational matters in the absence of the Head of FM to ensure that all planned and reactive works and other aspects of FM are delivered.
What you will need to do the role
Essential Qualifications
- Educated to GCSE level including Maths and English.
Holding a qualification as either an Approved Electrician (JIB) with 17th edition or with HVAC qualifications including COCN1, ICPN1 TCP1, CDGA1, CIGA1, BMP1.
Qualification in the Control of Legionella.
Experience of managing HVAC systems using a BMS (Trend or Honeywell being an advantage).
Qualified as an Approved Person for permitted work and understanding of how to control contractors.
Experience of managing diverse teams of qualified, skilled, and semi-skilled staff.
Experience of managing workflow and supervising work to achieve desired outcomes in terms of quality and productivity.
Experience in a variety of mechanical and electrical systems and fault finding and diagnosis of common faults and rectifying them.
Additional Features of the role
- To be a team member of the Facilities “Out of hours” call out roster.
Deputise for the Head of Facilities at meetings and other absences.
The role is a key supporting function in the challenging environment of a secure establishment.
