Apprentice Labourer/groundworker
Earn whilst you learn. Yep, that’s right. Get paid, work, and learn, get a qualification at the end, job’s a good’un.
**What you’ll be doing**
You’ll buddy up with different colleagues across the groundworks team including those who specialise in concreting, slab laying, fencing, drainage, bricklaying and all other aspects of the groundworks role.
You’ll be working outdoors, planning your day with your teammate and learning about all things groundworks. You’re trusted to get on with the job and will benefit from the knowledge and expertise of your colleagues.
You’ll spend 20% of your time learning, this will be a combination of virtual learning and workplace support (there’s a mobile van that comes to you for you to do some of your learning).
**About you**
You’ll be naturally curious and inquisitive, wanting to solve problems and find a solution to get the job done; a lot of groundworks is about looking at the problem in hand and finding a fix.
You’ll be comfortable learning and working at the same time and will be able to manage your own time to ensure learning deadlines are met.
You’ll work in our communities so will be happy to have a chat with colleagues and customers, always showcasing excellent customer service.
If you have a driving licence that’s great but not essential. The course has a new intake in March so you could be kickstarting your groundworker career really soon
**What’s in it for me**
We invest in our colleagues because we know if they have a better day at work, the service our customers receive will be better. The Aster Offer is our offer to our colleagues to ensure they have a great day at work and includes things like:
- Flexible working - whilst some roles need to be carried out in a specific place at a specific time, where possible we encourage our colleagues to work to their own schedule at a location that suits them and their team
- A focus on colleague wellbeing - workshops, an employee assistance programme offering counselling and support, virtual GP services, mental health training and a health cash plan for all
- We invest in colleagues’ careers and development through our leader and colleague development frameworks
- Defined Contribution Pension and attached life assurance
- Volunteering hours available to all colleagues to enable them to give back
- Savings at cinemas, gyms, holidays, days out, various shops and eateries and lots more
- Enhanced leave
- We celebrate colleagues who go above and beyond with a range of personalised thank you and monthly and annual awards.
**About Aster Group**
Now is a really exciting time to join us. We’re working towards our vision of everyone has a home. It’s a bold statement but one everyone across our business is passionate about. Our purpose is to improve people’s lives. We provide safety and security through our reliable landlord services and we supply a wide range of housing options in response to the housing crisis. We believe that work isn’t somewhere you go, it’s something you do. No two days are the same here, and agile working is the norm rather than the exception.
We’re on an exciting transformation journey. Our business strategy is clear. Our vision is bold. And what sets us apart is The Aster Way. The Aster Way is not just a set of words. It’s a shared understanding of the way we work - creating a fair and inclusive culture. It’s a set of straightforward principles that underpin everything we do, every day. From how we lead and learn, to how we collaborate, communicate and innovate, this is how we’ll reach our vision - that everyone has a home.
We’re a not-for-dividend business established in 1990 and have over £1.6 billion worth of assets. We own and maintain over 30,000 homes, provide services to approximately 90,000 customers and employ 1,300 people. The Aster Foundation is our way of giving something back. It’s the work we choose to do over and above our landlord and development activities.
