**POST**: My Ends Capacity Builder

**LOCATION**: 56a Mitcham Road, CR0 3RG / Wellness Centre, Whitgift Centre, Unit 1040/42

**RESPONSIBLE TO**: Chief Executive Officer

**SALARY**: £23,000

**HOURS**: Full Time

**LENGTH**:12 Months Fixed Term

**Job Description - Background**

The Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) has developed the MyEnds programme to provide support, capacity, and funding for locally designed interventions in neighbourhoods affected by high and sustained levels of violence.

The VRU expects that this work be grounded on a commitment to increase trust and collaboration between local communities, stakeholders, key local institutions, and statutory partners.

The funding - £750,000 - has allowed for a two-year programme which helps to address the causes of violence and trauma in the London Road area with the intent to reduce violence. It will be done by delivering a range of preventative positive interventions with a focus on:
**Young people** - we will support young people to run/take part in a range of positive activities including Media, Sports, Arts, starting with those who have been involved in the partnership from the outset

**Family support** - dealing with post-pandemic traumas including mental health and domestic abuse

**Peer-to-peer support** - engaging local residents in the violence reduction programme.

**Cultural competence** - addressing the relationship between the Police and BME communities; training young people to help train new recruits

MyEnds is about increasing the sustainability of community networks, so that they are well placed to respond to local emerging needs and add long-term capacity and support to an area.

Developing this local network is an integral part of the programme - ensuring they are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and access to resources and information in order that they may help shape plans and ideas. By developing this ground-up approach, we hope to see the emergence of new ideas and locally led interventions that reach those who need them most.

To help shape this approach we have developed a high-level Theory of Change. A Theory of Change is a useful tool for communicating what your programme does and what impact it will make. It can also help identify which outcomes are key to your programme’s success and indicate which ones should be the focus of your evaluation efforts.

**We have, through our Theory of Change, identified three strategic outcomes, set out below**:

- Stronger community networks that have a shared commitment to, understanding of, and vision for reducing violence.
- More inclusive decision-making between local stakeholders, statutory agencies, and communities, who are connected and are collectively leading programmes that are reducing violence.
- Greater capacity within community-led networks. Networks are better equipped to monitor and adapt to emerging needs and, through them, people know that help is available, how to access it, and it is appropriate.

The project aims to fund activities that keep us as an organisation rooted in the community and enables us to expand our community connections and amplify our community voice, helping this Network to deliver interventions that not only stem the violence but deliver quality of life outcomes for local people - as well as producing a new generation of grassroots BME groups to sustain the Network’s impact beyond the lifetime of this project.

**Key responsibilities and administrative tasks will include**:

- Attending the My Ends Friday strategy meetings on behalf of Croydon BME Forum
- Organising and coordinating meetings and events for the forums and programmes, including speaker and attendee liaison, and minute taking
- Cultivating a positive and supportive atmosphere by recognising the forums efforts and assisting the forums with their endeavours - be a representative
