**Nursery Assistant (Apprentice)**

Reports to: Room Leader/Deputy Manager

Job description

**Role overview and responsibilities**:

- Ensuring high quality childcare and education is provided in a safe and clean environment in line with Ofsted requirements and EYFS inside and outside of the nursery
- To report any Safeguarding concerns about children or staff you may have to your DSL and follow procedures as required
- Mentoring and supporting other staff in the nursery and work as a team, communication is key, ensure junior staff are fulfilling their roles and responsibilities, support them or ask for help for them
- Planning activities for the children and activities to support individual needs
- Knowledge of SEND and have an inclusive approach as we do throughout the nursery
- Carrying out progress checks and communicating your findings with parents/carers, completion of termly reports, observations, planning and next steps for the children in the room. Thorough understanding of the EYFS Reforms & new Development matters and the expectations of this
- Key work children
- To work with other professionals in the local area for the benefit of children and families
- To understand and work to preschool nursery policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies
- To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily attendance register, accident and incident book, risk assessments
- To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement.
- To work in partnership with senior management to update and review the self-evaluation and improvement plan
- To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with the Nursery aims and objectives
- Be fun and exciting to give the children the best time in nursery
