Project Planners play a key role in delivering advice and guidance to the project/programme leadership and their teams on how to best deliver the required outputs, products and activities within the scope of the plan within the Home Office Transformation Portfolio.It is large, complex and challenging, encompassing over 20 major and/or mission critical projects and programmes plus four business portfolios of change. There is a strong focus on agile, modular project delivery, supported by enterprise-wide portfolio managementand you could find yourself working on a project for the UK’s critical national infrastructure through to a complex technology enabled business change programme

The Role of a Project Planner
Your role as Project Planner will be to work with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the project are defined. You will provide clarity on key milestones to define what, when and how activities will be organised to ensure the outcomes of a project can beachieved, with the resources available.
Responsibilities;
Work with Senior Directors and key stakeholders to agree key milestone activities, Work Breakdown Structure, and scheduling.This includes identifying resource requirements and resource usage monitoring.
Identify, record, and actively manage dependencies. Capture and escalate them through the risk process and risk manager as appropriate.
Identify action plans for project controls, POAP Development and other planning reports.
Build strong networks both internally and externally including working with Stakeholders and wider management community to ensure programme and project plans remain synchronised.
Define and manage the critical path and ensure contingency measures are created.
Analyse performance data, looking at trends to identify areas for improvement and collaboration, and selecting appropriate methods and tools to resolve them.
Research and gather business requirements against those articulated for the project determining the need and value of performing the activity.
Provide guidance and advice to Deputy Directors and Project Managers during project initiation on selection of planning approach, tools, processes, and proportionality.
Develop a clear vision and standards and champion the use of best practice management standards, tools, and processes.
Co-ordinate workshops and ensures alignment with the strategic vision for the Programme.
Knowledge Transfer - ensure all planning and project control processes relating to this project and any additional best practice approach are well documented, placed in appropriate library/folders and used to develop team members

Essential Criteria;
Experience of working in major projects, programme management office or portfolio management office with a focus on planning. (Minimum 2 years).
Prince 2, MSP or APM qualification
Strong planning background
Experience in risk, issue, assumption, planning and dependency management
Ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels
Advanced User for the Microsoft Office Suite of Tools including Project, Visio, Excel and PowerPoint.
