Legal Research Officer

Legal Research Officer - £35,000 - £45,000 + great benefits.
- Hybrid working, so will also need to be commutable to Central London.

We’re working with an award-winning City law firm who are looking to add a Research Officer to their Research Department. This department plays an important role in providing both legal and non-legal information to key stakeholders within the firm, such as partners, lawyers, Professional Support Lawyers, paralegals, and Business Service Departments.

The Research team manages a large volume of online and hard copy resource materials which forms an essential part of ‘Know How’ projects and wider business development strategies, and the team contribute daily to research and information management projects across all departments and sectors of the firm.

The department also provides an enquiry service and delivers in depth training and induction programmes to existing and new employees covering both legal and business research.

Above all the position needs someone with a 'can do' attitude who will relish the opportunities and challenges that working in the Research team provides. Like all departments within this organisation, the Research Department boasts a cohesive, friendly ethos, where team work is essential.

**Be working currently, or has worked recently, in the legal sector in a role that included customer-facing enquiry work

**Have an information management qualification.

**Have expertise in database use and research.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Compile research notes, client packs and other reports in a clear, concise format.

**Help manage, design, and develop designated areas on our firm-wide intranet.

**Help maintain our Library Management System (SLLS).

**Attend departmental, Professional Support Lawyers and other firm-wide meetings.

**Assist in the designing and delivering of training and induction programmes for work experience students, trainees, and new starters.

**Help collate, manage, and deliver current awareness services.

**Anticipate user demands from knowledge of previous enquiries.

**Evaluate and feedback on a variety of sources.

**Deliver and maintain a high standard of work presentation following the clients procedures.

**Contribute to Research and Knowledge Management projects and initiatives.

**Accurate completion of administrative tasks.

**Additional ad hoc duties and covering for team member during holidays or busy periods.

**Technical Skills**

**Awareness of external libraries and their services, such as the Law Society, IALS, British Library and City Business Library.

**Knowledge of major concepts in English law and their relationships.

**Knowledge of EU organisations and functions.

**Knowledge of sources of company and financial information.

**Knowledge of key hard copy texts.

**Knowledge of key online resources and subscription services and how to construct search strategies.

**Experience using Westlaw, Lexis, Practical Law, PI and Merger Market.

**User training experience.

**Experience using SLLS or similar library management system or SharePoint (desirable).

**Organisational & Work Management Skills**

**Prioritise workload giving appropriate time to a variety of requests and tasks

**Able to work on own initiative without losing sight of overall team goals.

**Openly participates in development of service provision.

**Able to meet deadlines while keeping team members informed of developments.

**Deal with telephone, personal and written enquiries promptly and professionally

Promote the Research Centre as an efficient support unit to partners and staff.
