**Brief Description**:
Over 500 miles of used rail, 800 switches and crossings and 50,000 tonnes of contaminated ballast will be processed at Whitemoor each year. Recycling just the ballast will remove more than 2,500 lorry journeys from our roads and save Network Rail around £5m in landfill tax each year.

The new National Recycling Centre is at the heart of our efforts to drive down the cost of Britain's railways and make the industry more sustainable. Rail travel is the greenest form of public transport so Network Rail must take the lead in making our industry greener still.

Our work to maintain, renew and enhance the railway means we have to deal responsibly with hundreds of thousands of tonnes of waste every year. Our facility at Whitemoor NTMRC plays a massive role in minimising both the financial and environmental impact of this waste, creating recycled products which can be used on the railway or sold on at a profit.

Each year around 650,000 used concrete sleepers are returned to depots. Around 130,000 of these are able to be re-used on the railway, with the rest sold or crushed to create recycled concrete and a commercial recycled steel product.

**About the role (External)**:
As MHD Team Leader you will direct, organise and motivate the team so that work is undertaken safely, efficiently and to the relevant standards. Undertake and direct inspections. You will be responsible for taking morning briefs for the team and setting out the plan for the day. There is a requirement to work overtime depending on the workload.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

1. Establish and maintain appropriate safety arrangements for staff under your control including Contractors.

2. Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements or other instructions.

3. Undertake work and associated duties for which you are trained and competent.

4. Undertake and direct work activities in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with all relevant standards.

5. Check that the staff under your control have the appropriate and valid competencies.

6. Check that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials under your control are fit for use and are used/stored and disposed of correctly.

7. Contribute to your own development and that of others.

8. Adhere to company policies and procedures.

**Experience, Skills, Knowledge, Competency and Qualifications**

Essentia

Able to work as part of a team.Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Hold and retain competence and licenses to operate a loading shovel.Hold and retain competence and licenses to operate a material loading/excavator.Hold and retain any other competency and/or license relevant to this post and required by business need.Able and willing to drive other vehicles as required by business need.Experienced in fork and grab attachments.

**Salary**: £35,765 pa - 40 hours per week with overtime as needed
