An opportunity has arisen for a hands-on chemist to join us at our site in Silvertown. As a site chemist the role will consist of assisting with the operation of our Waste Transfer Station, ensuring incoming loads are as described, preparing outgoing loadsfor onward disposal and preparing samples for analysis.

To be successful you will have to have a hands-on approach to the role. As the majority of the time is spent working outside you must be prepared to work in all types of weather. Ideally you will have a degree in Chemistry or working within a similar environment.

Responsibilities will include:

- Accept incoming loads and complete documentation in accordance with the site permit.
- Inspect, classify and process waste as required - to include bulking, sorting, segregating, listing.
- To sort and re-pack chemical laboratory smalls.
- Ensure loads are labelled and described in accordance with ADR.
- Raise any relevant non-conformance reports in line with procedures, issues identify issues, corrective action taken and communicate to all relevant parties
- Maintain the accurate and timely completion of all relevant documentation of traceable records in line with Quality Management Systems of all waste received, stored and transferred.
- Organise and prepare waste outputs for onward disposal.
- Assist with outgoing loads to third-party disposal sites ensuring they are labelled and listed correctly.
- Be aware of personal responsibilities towards health and safety, quality and the environment.
- Promote high standards of safety.
- Ensure full compliance with all Company policies and procedures, including health and safety and employment.
- Provide technical support to other members of staff on site as required
- Monitoring and maintaining correct waste storage levels
- Operate forklift trucks competently and safely. (Training will be provided)

Basic Requirements
- Degree in Chemistry (or Chemistry/Environmental related) would be preferred.
- GCSE or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics
- Basic understanding of chemicals and their hazards.
- Capable of working outside.
- Able to work within potentially difficult environments i.e. wearing protective suits and respirators when required.
- Ability to work in busy environments.
- Work within precise and stringent deadlines.
- Flexible towards working hours to ensure the smooth operation of the Transfer Station
- Flexible and co-operative attitude and approach.
- Ability to work in a team or individually.
- Working hours - 40 hours per week - 8am to 5pm (one hour for lunch) taking a flexible approach to break times as and when required.

Salary Circa £24,000 - £26,000
