**Location**: Princess Christian Care Centre, Stafford Lake, Knaphill, Woking, Surrey GU21 2SJ
**Contracted Hours**: 6 Month Contract - 30-40 Hours Per Week.
The starting time is 7.30 am until 4 pm (with an unpaid break), but there can be flexibility with the timings of the shifts.
**Rate of Pay**: £12 Per Hour
**Accountable to the Registered Manager**
**Main Objectives**:
- To fulfil the expectation of Nellsar Ltd for all employees to give their personal best and strive for continuous improvement to ensure that the highest standards of care and service are delivered to all people that use our service.
- To bear in mind the overall objectives of the Care Home, namely that people who use our services will be encouraged to maintain independence and choice in a homely environment which promotes excellent customer relationships.
- To maintain the Home, and the grounds, ensuring all areas are free from hazards and all equipment and systems are in full working order.
- To carry out general duties as and when required, and with full consultation and knowledge of the Home Manager of the care home
- To decorate all areas of the home as instructed by Head of Maintenance or Home Manager
**Main Responsibilities and Duties**:
- To ensure the Home and all the equipment in it are safe and in good working order.
- To ensure the exterior of the building and grounds are maintained to a safe and good standard of repair, carrying out any works with the minimum disturbance to the people who use our service and/or staff.
- To advise on any potential problems to the Home Manager, e.g. heating systems, refrigeration, electrics, gas, and faulty equipment.
**Health and Safety Duties**:
- To comply with all aspects of Health & Safety at Work Act e.g. COSHH and other statutory regulations applicable
- To ensure that safety and cleanliness within the care home and grounds is to the satisfaction of the Environmental Health, Fire and Safety at Work regulations.
- To ensure all electrical appliances bought into the Home by residents, relatives and any other persons are checked and tagged safe for use, under the Health & Safety regulations.
- To assist in the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment by ensuring adherence to Health & Safety and Welfare policies and procedures.
- To record all Health and Safety checks in the relevant logbook:
- To ensure tools and equipment are adequately maintained and stored in a place of safety, secured from access by unauthorised persons.
- To ensure the fire alarm system is activated weekly to ensure proper working order and results recorded..
- To keep gutters and drainage points clear of leaves and debris.
- To repair fixtures and fittings where possible or liaise with the Home Manager if specialist repairs are necessary.
- To be prepared to give advice over the telephone and/or be called out to the home in emergencies when off duty.
- To ensure all staff are aware to use the Maintenance Person first for any repairs before calling out any specialist, as the cost implications are high.
- All building works and major refurbishment will be co-ordinated and controlled by the Maintenance Co-Ordinator.
- To assist the Home Manager and place deliveries in the correct storage areas.
- To prepare waste bins ready for collections as requested by the Home Manager.
- To assist with shampooing of carpets, as requested by the Home Manager.
- To assist with driving minibus, or similar vehicles, for residents’ outings, as requested by the Home Manager.
- To keep records of all room redecorations
**Training**
- To attend mandatory and statutory training as requested by to the Registered Manager.
- To attend training days as required on current legislation and procedures in order to keep up to date.
- To attend staff meetings.
- To participate in the annual appraisal system and supervision sessions.
- To keep a record of all instructions given by the Home Manager, especially where use of equipment is involved.
