This is a home based role but you must be willing to travel to the 30 UK locations. You will be trusted to shape this role and manage your time as you see fit but weekly travel is expected and required to be effective in this role. Ideally, you will be based in the Midlands as you can access almost half the sites in a day from here but we will consider other locations as long as travel isn’t an issue.
As a business they want to continually invest and improve, and they are embarking on large capital investment projects so it is a really exciting time to join. It will be an interesting mix of around 60% of the time being focused on existing machines and 40% on new projects and as this is a new position, you have the flexibility to shape the role.
Responsibilities include:

- You will ensure that Engineering projects are compliant with PUWER, applicable international Standards as well as CPI standards and Internal Best Practice. You will also develop improvement programs for existing equipment and support sites to reduce machine safety risk.
- Support the site HSE, Engineering and Leaderships teams in developing the annual HSE Plan from a machine safety perspective
- Provide expert advice to the UK on machine safety and guide the continuing roll out of risk reduction programs in this area.
- Through involvement in the procurement, installation and commissioning processes support the UK organisation to ensure that newly purchased equipment is compliant with Appendix 1.
- Support the business in ensuring compliance to Appendix 1 of new assets.
- Support the transition to UK CA marking.
- Develop programmes to train and coach Engineers and HSE Manager on the principles of Machine Safety.
- Advise on best practice and legal aspects of machine safety.
- Support incident investigations from a machine safety perspective.
- Develop and maintain internal machine safety standards in line with best practice.

What we need from you:

- Someone who is certified machinery safety expert and a background in mechanical and electrical engineering with an engineering degree.
- Experience in a similar role is essential as they need someone who can hit the ground running.
- Strong organisational skills and good under pressure, capable of taking the lead on projects and ensuring the smooth installation of new machinery.
- Experience doing PUWER assessments, machinery upgrades and identifying improvement plans.
- Someone who can coach and advise, upskilling existing teams.
