**Research Associate, Environment and Society Centre**:
Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, is an independent policy institute based in London. Our mission is to help build a sustainably secure, prosperous and just world.
The Environment and Society Centre (ESC) provides governments, businesses and societies with the information, networks and tools to tackle environmental challenges and accelerate the world towards a sustainable future. We conduct independent, thought-leading research on some of the biggest environmental challenges, researching, assembling and incubating the ideas and expertise needed for policy impact. The centre analyses and informs international processes, convenes diverse perspectives, and brings new ideas into the international arena.
The research demonstrates the interconnected, systemic impact of environmental challenges on both international geopolitics and local communities - and generates solutions to help mitigate, adapt and build resilience in the face of climate change and environmental degradation.
This role will form part of our dynamic, multi-disciplinary team, looking at securing the climate and energy transition. You will bring curiosity for interdisciplinary approaches and an appetite for working across several cross-cutting projects covering other research areas within the team. This is a great opportunity to undertake research and write to a high standard, including contributing to Chatham House publications.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Delivery**:
- Support policy-relevant research in the field of oil and gas and economic transition, just transition and finance, and broader research on climate and energy transitions for projects led by the Centre.
- Contribute to project design and delivery, including helping to define objectives, goals and outputs, and delivering on project activities (including research, events and publications).
- Convey complex information clearly and concisely to different audiences in oral and written formats, tailoring content and approach accordingly.
- Promote your research area and our work on it as widely as possible, and publicise research project activity and its policy relevance.
**Strategy**:
- Contribute to the Centre’s research activities using a range of research methodologies, demonstrating its position as a leader on this topic.
- Promote the Centre and your related research through presentations, publications and the media.
- Work with colleagues in the Environment and Society Centre and Chatham House to contribute to funding proposals.
**People**:
- Collaborate and coordinate with team members, Chatham House staff and to support and build on our existing research and deliver policy-relevant events.
- Establish, maintain and develop networks and links with external individuals, businesses, and institutions relevant to your research.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing core sponsors on related work, involving them in relevant meetings and on occasion, where appropriate, providing tailored briefings.
**Personal Specification**:
- Demonstrable experience in the field of oil and gas and economic transition, just transition and finance, and broader research on climate and energy transitions for projects led by the Centre.
- Experience in systematic literature reviews and possess quantitative and qualitative analysis skills.
- Experience helping to develop successful funding bids.
- Superb communication skills, able to present information and arguments persuasively, both in person and in writing.
- Ability to form relationships both internally and with external organizations.
- Experience in helping to design successful research events with clear policy relevance.
- Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work logically and methodically.
- Proven trouble-shooting, fact-checking and problem-solving abilities with a track record to work quickly and effectively under pressure while balancing multiple commitments.
- Dedicated, self-motivating approach, with a collegiate, collaborative and consistent approach to work.
**Benefits**:
Benefits include approximately 37 days annual leave (including public holidays and Chatham House closure days), pension salary exchange, employee assistance programme, parental leave, flexible working and other benefits designed to suit your lifestyle. All of this, in a professional, engaging and intellectually stimulating environment.
**Salary**: £37,000 per annum
**Contract**: Full-time, 9 month FTC
**Location**: Hybrid (Office/Home), minimum 2 days in the office per week.
