**Job description**:
This is a key role in the Transport Labour Market & Skills (TLMS) team within the Department for Transport, developing policy and strategies to ensure the transport sector has the skilled people it needs to deliver for the future.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in conjunction with senior skills and employment experts from across the transport sector and Government as we work to address skills challenges for the whole of the transport sector including;
- Improving training and employment

- Join a small, highly regarded team in the Strategy, Private Office and Governance Directorate;
- Have the opportunity to work across an interesting and stretching brief;

- Work at the heart of DfT to develop innovative policy approaches to address emerging skills challenges.
- Be fully supported to develop their skills and knowledge further, there will be opportunities including, getting involved in the wider work of Strategy Unit and shadowing in Private Office
**_ Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: _**
- With the wider team, provide Secretariat to and support the work of the industry led, Transport Employment and Skills Taskforce as well as direct support to the Chair and the three working groups that sit beneath the Taskforce.
- Support the development and coordination of the TEST action plan.
- Lead on briefings and engagement related to skills and support the Minister responsible for skills in DfT.
- Build a network of contacts internally and externally to build knowledge and advocate for skills and the industry taskforce.
- Responsible for leading the policy profession work for the Department for Transport, the policy profession provides tailored L&D and support to all those working in policy roles. You will work closely with the Director on arranging an ongoing programme of events, such as developing & supporting the Policy School and Policy Orientation course, and manage relationships with facilitators & learning providers to guarantee this offer

**About you**
To thrive in this role, you will have the ability to compile, assimilate, distil, interpret and present a strong evidence base from a wide range of types of evidence and opinions to form a sound and compelling base to inform coherent policy making.
The role requires the post-holders to be able to understand the big picture, work together with internal and external stakeholders, react at pace when required, and to make effective decisions both on stakeholder engagement and policy development.
**Additional information**
A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
This role may include some travel, this is likely to occur up to once a quarter and may include overnight stays.
