**St Catherine's is a small 10 bedded care home based in Lanark.**

**In accordance with the Equality Act 2010, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the post holder of this role to be female, as the role requires the personal care of residents who are all female.**
- **PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION**_

To provide a high standard of person-centred care to the residents of the care home in accordance with their assessed needs, ensuring that a safe, effective and responsive care service is provided, which enhances the life of each individual.

To work effectively as part of the team, creating a comfortable, friendly, ‘community’ environment in accordance with safeguarding principles and policies, and the philosophy and values of the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul.
- **PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**_

Care, Support and Wellbeing

1. To help and assist each resident with all aspects of daily personal care such as showering and bathing, dressing and grooming, dental hygiene, toileting and continence care, as drawn up in their care plan.

2. To encourage and support independence of each resident while maintaining residents’ privacy, dignity and self-esteem.

3. To treat each resident as an individual, respecting their faith, ethnicity and background and facilitating opportunities for choice.

4. To assist each resident to maximise their potential while understanding the importance of the changing needs of a person’s physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual abilities as they age.

5. To be familiar with and adhere to the planned care and support, or respite programme for each resident.

6. To be alert to the changes in a resident’s physical, emotional and psychological health wellbeing and report promptly to senior staff and assist as required.

7. To assist with preparing and serving of food and drinks as requested / required and to manage the dining area and dining experience.

8. To assist any residents who need help during meal times (be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements etc).

9. To act as a key worker for named residents under the guidance of the Registered Manager, and maintain the programme of the Keyworker system.

10. To assist, engage and encourage residents with their activities, interests and hobbies.

11. To escort residents traveling e.g. on social outings, hospital visits, appointments etc.

12. To assist sensitively to the delivery of end of life care. To ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with the Home’s policies and procedures.

Health and Safety

1. To ensure a safe, stable, secure and homely environment is provided for all and to report anything to the contrary to Senior Management or to maintenance personnel.

2. To ensure a high level of competency and diligence with the safe administration of medication to residents in accordance with the Medication Policies and procedures.

3. To supervise and monitor the residents at regular intervals attending to individual needs with particular awareness of the personal safety of each one.

4. To ensure that all fire prevention policies and procedures and security management of the home is strictly adhered to and any concerns are immediately reported.

5. To ensure the compliance of a high level of infection control is maintained personally and throughout the home.

6. To ensure all risk assessments are adhered to and actioned as necessary, in line with policies and procedures.

7. To respond quickly, calmly and effectively to emergencies, following policies and procedures accurately.

8. To assist residents with physical movements in accordance with manual handling procedures as required.

9. As appropriate, to assist residents with their support equipment such as wheelchairs, aids, zimmer frames, spectacles or adaptations etc, and ensure that they are kept clean and in working condition.

10. To ensure all equipment used is in a safe working condition and report any faults immediately.

Administration and Communication

1. To ensure that all relevant policies, procedures and current legislation are understood, practiced and adhered to.

2. To use and update the Person Centred Software (PCS) digital system effectively for the management of resident’s care plans; recording of activities and medication management, in accordance with the Home’s policies and procedures

3. To record and maintain all digital and written records as required, reporting any concerns immediately to the person in charge.

4. To review the care plans of the residents for whom the Care Assistant is the keyworker, in accordance with person-centred requirements, and pass to the Senior Care Assistant for checking.

5. To ensure you work within the requirements of the Data Protection Act in all matters

6. To practice maximum integrity in all dealings with residents' personal and financial affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with
