**LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT**
**Want to do the best work of your life? Playing your part in making a big difference to the environment and communities we serve. Our people make Severn Trent a truly exciting and inclusive place to work - a place where you can be yourself and let your skills shine.**
Our purpose is taking care of life’s essentials, but we’re also big on making a difference, not just because we should but because we care.
With that in mind we’re looking for a Technical Lead - Environmental to help us as we do so.
Do you have a strong technical background in a relevant environmental discipline, and an understanding of the relevant regulatory, social, political, and environmental drivers that affect Severn Trent water?
Are you experienced in building effective working relationships with others from a range of organisations?
Well, if you are, read on.
**LET’S TELL YOU MORE**
This role is working on the inter-water company Strategic Resource Option project, looking at how to reduce drought risk for water companies across the country. Severn Trent are involved in five of the schemes that are being funded through AMP7 including the flagship Severn to Thames transfer, Grand Union Canal Transfer and Upper Derwent Valley expansion. This role will focus on delivering the environmental programmes for these schemes. This is a great opportunity to work on a nationally significant infrastructure project.
As a Technical Lead, your responsibility will be:
Lead delivery of one or more of the EIAs within STW’s SRO Environment team.
For this, you’ll need to manage and contribute to technical work packages being delivered by consultants to ensure they deliver the required outcomes for the EIA. This means you’ll need to build trust with regulators to make sure we’re getting the right information to answer the questions they are posing.
As well as the above, you’ll also set out work packages and timelines required to meet ‘Gate 3’ including key stakeholder requirements, and leading multi-party workshops may be required.
Alongside this, you’ll also need to manage consultants delivering the environmental work packages, monitor delivery, review reports, and ensure scheme partners buy-in.
You will work with technical experts inside and outside the organisation. It will be pivotal to utilise internal expertise and get the best outcome for Severn Trent from the SRO’s.
This role will require knowledge of many aspects of environmental investigation, particularly EIA. You will be required to produce the environmental sections of the regulatory papers submitted for the SROs for Gate 3 and 4, which will include assurance of all the outputs produced in this workstream.
**WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR**
You will have a successful track record of delivering EIA’s and knowledge of relevant legislation in the UK.
Evidence of collaborative working with consultants, engineers, project managers, other water companies and regulators
You’ll need to build trusting relationships with our environmental and water quality regulators along with our internal stakeholders, providing technical advice to ensure that the SROs can deliver Environmental Assessments on these strategic transfers.
Specifically, we would be looking for prior experience in the below:
- A strong technical background in a relevant environmental discipline (EIA, hydrology, ecology, natural capital, water transfers)
- A good understanding of the relevant planning and consenting regimes for EIAs
- Experience of project management, budget control and leading projects
- An understanding of the relevant regulatory, social, political and environmental drivers that affect STW
- Experience guiding and appraising work delivered by consultants to ensure it meets our, and regulatory requirements
- Experience of the DCO and/or WRMP processes would be beneficial
- The ability to provide or interpret technical advice/reports and communicate this to various parties at an appropriate level of detail
- An ability to turn data and reports in to informative and engaging slide packs to update internal teams, external parties and senior management
- Strong analytical skills, with ability to quickly assimilate information, think broadly and ask questions about data, facts and other information
- Professional chartership - or clear path to achieving chartership is desirable
Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity, and a caring attitude in equal weight.
We want people who show up and roll their sleeves up. Restless spirits who are ready to be part of something bigger, who care, who really care... because when you really care, you’ll go above and beyond. When you really care you don’t just talk about it, you do more.
We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to l
