King’s College Hospital is seeking a dynamic, energetic Consultant with a special interest in Haemato-Oncology Diagnostics and Myeloid Malignancies based at our Denmark Hill site.

This is an exciting time to join one of the largest Haematology Departments in the UK. We are in the final stages of planning for a new building that will expand our outpatient and day-case units and for a new stem cell laboratory that, along with the complete refurbishment of two of our wards, shows the investment the Trust is putting into our services. This investment allows for us to deliver the full and comprehensive care we desire for our patients, which includes ready access to a comprehensive HMDS, delivery of a full range of cellular therapies and managing phase 1 - 4 clinical trials
- To provide a first class integrated diagnostic malignant haematopathology service in keeping with the recommendations of the NICE IOG document.
- Work in conjunction with colleagues in SE-HMDS to drive the development and implementation cellular pathology techniques and technologies appropriate for an ultra-specialist service.
- Attend multidisciplinary meetings as a core member as requested by the clinical lead in haemato-oncology.
- Together with the other members of consultant staff, to provide a service for haematological malignancies, with a specific interest in myeloid disorders
- Shared responsibility with the other consultant staff members for providing 24-hour, 7 day a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis (on call commitment currently 1:14)
- Provide clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
- Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
- Contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trust’s R&D framework.
- Contribute to the audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, clinical governance programs and learning from Deaths.
- Take an active role in the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of the department’s/ Division’s Business Plan.

Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).

Since its inception in 2006, and the appointment of a consultant in diagnostic haemato-oncology in 2007, there has been a rapid expansion in both the scope and volume of work undertaken, with a doubling of the number of samples processed (see table below).
