This is a multi-faceted role offering experience across a breadth of services. As a 12 month locum appointment there is flexibility for less PA’s or adjustment to the job plan above to balance service ambition with your individual needs and interests. Weekly clinical workload for the post will include community outreach to support the clinical nurse specialist teams in Bassetlaw, Mansfield and Ashfield. This may include in-reach to the bedded facility in Bassetlaw or domiciliary reviews.
From John Eastwood Hospice there will be a weekly ward round for up to 6 patients, sharing these with a consultant colleague. There will also be in-reach and work alongside the clinical nurse specialist and end of life team in Sherwood Forests Hospitals.
The role will build on our developing ambitions to provide reach to more deprived groups and to develop shared pathways of care with other services and other disease groups by offering outpatient clinical time.
Maintenance of high quality, evidence-based, Specialist Palliative Care to patients and their families with care, compassion and dignity.
- Responsibility for the day-to-day clinical management of patients including hospice, hospital and community patients.
- To manage and participate in the out-of-hours on call rota for John Eastwood Hospice and provide reciprocal cover for periods of leave to Consultant colleagues.
- Provide consultant level medical leadership within Specialist Palliative Care service.
- Lead the development of reciprocal pathways of support between different medical specialities and a variety of patient environments.
- Participate in departmental and trust clinical governance and quality improvement.
- Work to achieve personal and trust objectives.

Ensure active engagement in CPD and appraisals and revalidation.
Participate in delivery of education and training both within the hospice and externally.
Contribute to educational and clinical supervision of trainee doctors.

- Deliver consultant level day-to-day medical care to hospice in-patients and patients accessing other Specialist Palliative Care services.
- Provide clinical leadership, education and development to the wider clinical team
- Provide leadership and participate as a member at the weekly in-patient multidisciplinary team meeting.
- Out-of-hours responsibilities for the Mid Notts and Bassetlaw area, including participation in the medical on call rota.
- Cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences.
- Any responsibility which relates to a special interest.
- Educational and clinical supervision of trainee doctors, advanced clinical practitioners and supervision of Specialty Doctors.
- Training and supervision of Nurse Independent Prescribers.
- To participate in education and training junior doctors, medical students, hospice staff and volunteers.
- Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement projects and the Trusts clinical governance processes.
- Support research activity.
- Comply with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements as stipulated by the Royal Colleges.
- To keep a portfolio of evidence, to have an annual appraisal and write a personal development plan (PDP) in line with GMC revalidation policies and procedures.
- Support and assist in the achievement of Trust objectives.
- Work with the trust and commissioners on the development of Specialist Palliative Care and End of Life Care services.
