Trade Course Support Assistant

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Previous experience in a trade profession such as painting and decorating, plastering, or construction is highly desirable.
- Experience working with young people in an alternative provision, SEN (Special Educational Needs), or behavioural support setting is preferred.
- A recognised teaching assistant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3) is preferred but not essential.

**Salary and Hours**:

- Salary: £15 per hour.
- Hours: Based on the position applied for. Term-time only, Tuesday and Thursday, from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about trade skills and education, with a desire to make a positive impact on students who may benefit from a non-traditional learning environment.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Classroom Support**:

- Assist trade instructors in delivering lessons.
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to students who require additional help with practical trade skills (e.g., painting techniques, plastering methods, basic construction tasks).
- Prepare and maintain tools, equipment, and materials for practical sessions.
- Support students with hands-on activities, ensuring they develop practical skills and confidence.

**Student Engagement**:

- Build positive relationships with students, encouraging them to engage in lessons and develop their confidence and skills.
- Support students in all areas of their learning, adapting approaches to suit individual needs and learning styles.
- Assist in teaching elements such as workplace health and safety, first aid, and trade-related regulations.

**Behaviour and Pastoral Support**:

- Work with students who may face barriers to learning, such as behavioural issues, low self-esteem, or lack of confidence.
- Promote a calm and inclusive environment in the classroom.
- Implement behaviour management strategies as needed.

**Administrative Duties**:

- Communicate with parents and carers regarding student attendance and engagement.
- Assist in tracking student progress and providing feedback when needed.
- Complete daily logs detailing student progress, concerns, and classroom observations.
- Ensure accurate records are maintained and that all required administrative tasks are completed on time.

**Collaboration and Communication**:

- Work closely with other professionals to support the holistic development of students.
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute to discussions about students’ progress and needs.

**Health and Safety**:

- Ensure all health and safety guidelines are followed during practical sessions.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the workshop/classroom, ensuring tools and materials are stored safely.

**Teamwork and Professional Development**:

- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the aims and objectives of the provision.
- Attend team/staff meetings and contribute positively.
- Provide and receive constructive feedback to improve performance.
- Be familiar with and adhere to all policies and procedures.
- Be aware of EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plans) for all young people and support their implementation.
- Understand that the student-to-staff ratio is 1:4 and that lone working may be required at times.

**General Responsibilities**:

- Attend young people’s meetings when required (typically via Teams).
- Use personal transport when necessary (mileage reimbursed).
- Complete relevant training within agreed timeframes.
- Undertake any other reasonable tasks as directed by the line manager.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: £15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- No weekends
