Content and Communications Lead

The post holder will be passionate about the NHS and a great storyteller, able to present information in a compelling way via a range of channels (social media, web and digital, slide decks, reports and marketing collateral).
The post holder will coordinate across individual AHSNs and our national programmes to identify and gather our very best stories and statistics, and will support the AHSN Network Central Coordination Office to use existing/develop new creative channels and opportunities to communicate these to our stakeholder individuals and organisations.
In addition to leading the creation and distribution of compelling content, the role will support the development of systems and processes to manage effective engagement, such as maintaining contact lists and tracking ongoing engagements / developing a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
The post holder will work as part of the ‘virtual’ Central Coordinating Office, reporting to the Communications Manager and working to the Director of Communications and Engagement. They will also work closely with the National Coordination Director, the AHSN Network Chair and Vice Chair and the Chair and Deputy Chair of the AHSN Strategic Communication Group.
- Lead creation and roll-out of a content plan for the Network, planning and designing rich content for a range of channels to demonstrate the role of the Network and AHSNs in the health and care system.
- Manage the AHSN Network social media channels and website, ensuring channels are maintained and updated. Manage relationship with web developers to supervise developments and updates to the website and ensure value for money from the maintenance and support contract.
- Responsible for the website and social media content policies, ensuring AHSN communications teams provide content inline with guidelines and honing and editing submissions to best represent the Network.
- Provide and receive complex, and at times confidential, information to develop and translate into compelling content to promote the Network, AHSNs and health innovation.
- Responsible for purchasing and managing ongoing contracts for digital and social tools and channels.
- Budget responsibility for social and digital communications budget, researching and auditing options (Sprout Social; MailChimp; Survey Monkey), negotiating contracts and ensuring good return on investment.
The AHSN Network, operates as the national innovation arm of the NHS, and is leading the spread and adoption of new technologies, pathways and medicines in health and care. The AHSN Network is the collective voice of the 15 academic health science networks (AHSNs) across England and we work collaboratively to support change nationally.
Our Communications Manager is off on Maternity Leave, so we are now on the look-out for an experienced communications lead to join our national central communications team, as Communications Manager to lead the communications and engagement for a number of key programmes and external commissions.
We’re looking for an experienced communicator, who has an understanding of the current NHS landscape and able to work across the communications mix, writing and editing content, managing events, creating collateral and materials and working with the media.
The post-holder will be expected to develop and lead on the delivery of communications plans for their own areas of work.
Although the post is hosted within Health Innovation Manchester (one of the 15 AHSNs and part of Manchester NHS Foundation Trust) - the role is working for the national AHSN Network team, and therefore is fully remote/home-based. Our current team is spread geographically across England and work together virtually, however, we occasionally travel to meetings or events around the country.
The AHSN Network acts nationally as the innovation arm of the NHS and is the collective national voice of the 15 academic health science networks (AHSNs) across England.
Our Content Lead will be acting up into a maternity cover position, so we are looking for someone to fill their role for 8 months.
You will be experienced communicator with knowledge of social media channels and the tools to manage them, websites and content management systems (we currently use WordPress), and good ideas for what makes compelling content. You will also be able to work with the rest of the team to manage and respond to in-coming enquiries.
You will be a great storyteller, able to bring to life the innovations and initiatives that AHSNs are championing to transform the NHS and you will be able to present information in a compelling way via a range of channels.
