**Job Title**: Principal/Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

**Responsibilities**:
This role provides a mechanical design and technical draughting service to the product groups, working concurrently with engineers, to design new and enhance existing products, and manufacturing equipment, to relevant company standards. Including carryingout work as defined on change requests and creation of technical documentation for product data packages. Project work package management will also be a major part of this role. They will form part of a design team focussed on development of Electronic Assemblies,this team is situated within the Power Electronics and Systems group. As well as leading work packages, this role will also be expected to support the lead designers in the design, development and delivery of components and systems within the RF Power divisionand other divisions if required.

**Ownership & Accountability**
- Generate and maintain Product Data Package documentation that accurately and efficiently embodies product design intent utilising 2D CAD and 3D solid modelling tools and other appropriate software.
- Produce designs that meet customer technical, quality and safety requirements and are capable of cost-effective manufacture.
- Provide support for standard products changes in support of the Design Office, ensuring timely completion and good communication.
- Delivery of work packages within budget and to agreed timescales.
- Work with outside suppliers to design products/equipment, which meet the design specification and are capable of cost-effective manufacture.
- Provide mentoring on Mechanical Design issues such as Solving Mechanical Design Problems, Interpretation of Engineering Drawings, Material selection, Stress and Thermal considerations, Design Concepts, Rapid Prototyping etc.
- Researching background information from a variety of sources in support of mechanical design decisions
- Timely action of engineering change requests in accordance with company procedures, and progress them through the design office to completion.
- Ensure that work packages assigned to you are completed on time and within budget.
- Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental (OHSE)

**Required experience**
- Will be technically and theoretically competent and able to carry out engineering calculations in support of design solutions.
- Highly Competent in technical draughting and understands drawing GD&T to a high level
- Highly proficient use of 2D and 3D CAD packages (PTC Creo and AutoCAD).
- Proficient use of a PDM System (Preferably Windchill)
- Experience in the design of electronics packaging, both compact assemblies and large electrical enclosures
- Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (Structural and thermal)
- Deliver support for developments, working with hardware engineers to deliver of a solution that meet these the mechanical and performance requirements
- Knowledge of material science
- Experience of product and document configuration management
- Disciplined approach and good communication skills
- Be proactive in seeking resolutions to problems
- Ability to effectively manage time and costs - work package management
- Ensure design intent is documented
- Ensure design solutions meet regulatory compliance
- Ability to motivate self to carry out tasks efficiently and effectively and to track progress to deal with any issues as they arise
- Will aid the identification of suitable suppliers and procurement, as well as able to specify requirements of components, assemblies and COTS items

**Job Specific Requirements (Desirable)**
- Ability to develop and maintain a strong network across different functional and project groups
- Experience of tooling, jigs and fixture design
- Familiar with DFSS methodology and associated techniques (e.g. Design For Manufacture and Assembly and Design For Cost)

**Qualifications**:

- Degree/H.N.C. or equivalent qualified in a mechanical engineering discipline
