**Witham Third District Internal Drainage Board depot is based in Woodhall Spa, Lincoln**.

**WORKING HOURS**: Working hours will be based around a 76-hour working fortnight, with alternate non-working Fridays.

**THE ROLE**: An exciting opportunity to join the team at Witham and Humber Drainage Boards, based at Witham Third District Internal Drainage Boards (IDB).

Witham & Humber Internal Drainage Boards are North East Lindsey, Witham First District, Witham Third District and Upper Witham IDBs. A group of 4 independent statutory Land Drainage, Water Levels and Flood Risk Management Authorities working collectively under a partnership agreement.

If successful, you will be required to work across 3 of the 4 Internal drainage Boards as part of a team of Land Drainage Operatives, providing front line drainage and flood protection service. You will be responsible for maintenance of adopted watercourses, protecting land, critical infrastructure and property from flooding and ensure good land drainage. The watercourses mainly run through private land, you have a duty of care and respect for wildlife and the environment, private land owner’s property and crops whilst being environmentally conscious.

**THE CANDIDATE**: Skilled and flexible operator of plant and equipment, you will be operating a range of machinary ie 360 excavator (5-23 tonne) wheeled excavator, tractor and flail combination and other equipment. A wide collection of skills are required to undertake a diverse range of land drainage seasonal duties, tractor operator, weedcutting, desilting, bushing/chipping of trees and heavy manual hand labouring.

The post-holder will be responsible, flexible and adaptable to working across the wider Boards. You must hold a full clean driving licence, have good understanding of health and safety at work and proficient understanding of the English language are essential.

We are seeking an individual who is self-motivated, flexible, capable of lone working, as well as working as part of an established team. You must be willing to adapt your skill set to a broad range of seasonal operations, assist with a diverse range of land drainage duties and available to respond to extensive rainfall and extreme weather call-out requests within Witham and Humber Boards District.

This is an essential and pivotal role which enables the Boards to achieve their organisational goals and objectives. You are required to work in harmony, supporting colleagues and becoming a key member of an effective team. You will uphold and comply with the organisations’ policies and the law in relation to Health and Safety, Financial Regulations, Equal Opportunities, Data Protection and other adopted Policies and Procedures. The post holder will also undertake other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the status of the post as may from time to time be required by the wider team.

**Key Areas of Responsibility**
- Operating a range of heavy machinery e.g. 10 tonne and above excavator
- Operating machinery with a variety of attachments
- Chainsaw work
- Strimming of banks, water courses, pumping station compounds, depot
- Operating a chipper
- Bank slip repairs
- Remove obstructions from culverts, grills and runs
- Building maintenance
- Assisting others in the workshop duties
- Develop and maintain excellent team and wider team communication systems
- Day to day management and maintenance of machinery and operating equipment
- Manage, maintain and review record keeping in electronic and paper format
- Ad-hoc projects and tasks as required by the Director of Operations and Engineering Services, Operations Manager and Foreman
- Respond to public enquires in a professional manner

**Key **Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Experience essential for the role of Land Drainage Operative**:

- Full clean UK Driving Licence
- Proven experience operating a 360 tracked excavator, tractor and flail combination
- Experience of operating other plant and machinery i.e. tractor, telescopic forklift, chainsaw, strimmer
- Experience of Health and Safety at work
- Due to the physical demands of the job, you must consider yourself physically fit and in general good health
- Due to the nature of the role, you will need a proficient understanding of the English language
- The role requires you to be IT literate able to manage, maintain and review record and documents
- Excellent teamwork skills to enabling the Boards to work flexibly and cooperatively
