Specilaist Spld Study Skills Tutor

We are excited to be expanding our team of self-employed, freelance Specialist SpLD Study Skills Tutors to support university students around Hampshire.

We are looking for people to work with students studying at one or more of the following universities:

- **University of Winchester**:

- **University of Southampton**:

- **Solent University**

At this time, **we are specifically looking for people who could meet with students in person** (e.g., at the student's university) if a student asks to do so.

**Roles and responsibilities**
- work with university students on a one-to-one basis to provide personalised specialist support, teaching them study skills, and developing strategies together with them that will help reduce the impact of their disability on their academic work.
- communicate effectively and professionally with us within Mulberry Education and also, when appropriate, with colleagues in the university's disability advisor team.
- maintain accurate and secure digital records in line with Mulberry Education’s and the Department for Education’s requirements.
- be responsible for their own timetable and be proactive in helping students engage with their support.
- be able to meet with a student in person should they request this.

**Skills and experience**

We are looking for someone who:

- has experience of supporting students with specific learning difficulties (SpLD), such as dyslexia, dyspraxia or ADHD. This experience does not necessarily need to be with university students.
- has a good understanding of the requirements of academic work at university level.
- holds membership of one of the specified professional bodies mandated by the Department for Education as detailed below.

To provide support in this role, it is **essential** that you are a member of one of the following professional bodies:

- PATOSS (full or associate membership)
- British Dyslexia Association (professional membership)
- ADSHE (professional membership)
- Dyslexia Guild (Associate, Member or Fellow)

This essential requirement is set by the Department for Education and must be met before you can provide DSA-funded support.

**What is working in this role like?**

The Specialist SpLD Study Skills Tutors we work with are freelancers who enjoy flexible working hours and control over their own timetable. They meet each student regularly, usually for an hour or two each week during term time, to explore and address thestudent's unique barriers to learning.

We pay £35 per hour and offer full induction training and ongoing support to ensure our team members can provide the highest quality support. We have an easy-to-use electronic timesheet system to keep admin tasks to a minimum.

A Specialist SpLD Study Skills Tutor can only be paid for time in a support meeting with the student. This means this role has no guaranteed hours as it depends on the student’s engagement with their support. However, this uncertainty can be reduced as thenumber of students the Specialist SpLD Study Skills Tutor is asked to work with increases and as the working relationship with the student develops. We also proactively work with the student, Specialist SpLD Study Skills Tutor and university disability advisorteam to promote engagement.

**About Mulberry Education**

We are a Non-Medical Help Provider supporting university students receiving DSA (Disabled Student Allowances). Most of the students we work with are in southern England, although we do work with others further afield too. We are passionate about helpingothers develop and learn. We believe higher education is a valuable life experience that can be made more accessible to people who have barriers to learning resulting from disability, mental health condition, specific learning difficulty, specific cognitivedifference or neurodivergence.
