The Custody Officer role involves working as part of a highly specialised flexible team, responsible for the booking in, rights and welfare of all persons arrested at the Border for Customs Offences in the designated Border Force Custody Suite at Gatwick Airport.

The role will also involve carrying out other administrative duties such as monitoring CCTV to monitor detainees and visitors within the Custody Suite, ensuring adequate levels of stock and supplies and are held and raising invoices to cover any expenditure made by the unit, assisting with the inputting of data onto a spreadsheet, conducting Peer Reviews on Custody Records within the team as well as monitoring the maintenance of the suite and the many electronic control systems it contains.

**Responsibilities**:

- Establishing that there are sufficient grounds to authorise the detention of a person.
- Providing Duty of Care to all detainees.
- Conducting Dynamic Risk Assessments of detainees.
- Liaising with Case Officers, Solicitors, Gaoling Staff, Medical Professionals, Interpreter and Police to ensure that investigations are carried out expeditiously.
- Maintaining a high standard of written custody records which logs all activity relating to the detainee.
- Itemising and securing any property removed from the detainee.
- Conducting a range of daily, weekly, and monthly checks on all areas and equipment within the suite.
- Controlling all access and egress to and from the suite.

**Essential Criteria**:

- Excellent verbal and written communication with attention to detail.
- Ability and confidence to manage and build effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
- Experience of working under pressure with limited supervision.
- Experience of working as a team-player, supporting colleagues and team members to deliver key outcomes.
