Our client based in Derbyshire near Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Burton upon Trent are looking to expand their Customs department / Trade Affairs Team.
The client with 70 + sites worldwide specialise in the manufacturing of products for the Fragrance, Beauty, Food and Well-being industry. They are a well established business with a long history and known for their best-in-class processes and procedures.

As a Trade Affairs (TA) / Customs and Compliance Specialist, you will manage all customs related activities for our Taste & Wellbeing business. In this new role, you manage the customs activities at 2 sites with a base in DERBYSHIRE.
The primary role of the TA Specialist is to improve the daily customs clearance procedures and ensure compliance with trade regulations whilst optimising the payment of Customs Duties. Your role is to coordinate both site activities related to customs and representthe Trade Affairs Operations UK Team Lead. The TA Specialist is part of an operational team within both sites reporting to The Trade Affairs Team Lead with a functional reporting line to the Head of Logistics whilst also supporting the logistics teams.
The Role:
- Manage all requirements to clear goods at the border and ensure that documentation and data entry are consistent.
- Management and documentation of daily local customs' activities
- Official contact for local customs authorities - for daily operations
- Administration and maintenance of import & export records in our systems
- Ensure compliance to international trade regulations and local customs accreditation
- Ensure continuity including local backup solution
- Coordinate import and export declarations with customs agents and forwarders
- Control of import and export documents and tasks
- Manage Duty refunds and Duty drawbacks
- Ensure compliance of inbound and outbound Duty processes
- Licence Management
- Ensure the correct Duty is applied through checking the GOV.UK websites
- Monitor Service level agreements and keeping them updated with the customs broker/forwarders
- Functional support to other departments
Experience / Qualifications required:
- Commercial education
- 2 years + recognised experience in the import/export area
- Fluency in English
- Solid SAP knowledge
- Commercial education
- Technological ability
- Teamwork
- Customs clearance processes (import, export, transit )
- Customs understanding
- Customs legislation and regulation
- Customs valuation and declaration
- Customs and customs related IT systems
- Customs entry and MSS data checking
- Incoterm knowledge
- Origin recognition
