Purpose of the role
To plan and lead weekly music making activities between 10am and 12pm each Friday during term time at Sage Gateshead alongside the SEND Programme Leader for young people with additional needs and to reflect upon progress towards project outcomes in a reflective diary after each session.
To support the development of musical skills, confidence and social skills in young people with additional needs through delivery of musical activities that reflect young people’s interests, in which their views are integral, achievements are celebrated and everyone experiences equality of engagement.
Background Information
Children and Young People (CYP) are a key focus for Sage Gateshead across our programmes of activity. Young People's Programme (YPP) focuses on young people developing their skills as musicians, producers, and leaders. Artistic work for young people as audiences is developed within other parts of our programme. YPP stands include:
- YPP - our programme for young people aged 4 - 25 to develop skills as musicians. This includes our Young Musicians Programme / YMP (early years, open access and advanced, including our Centre for Advanced Training), In Harmony Newcastle Gateshead and training for Music Leaders;
- Schools, Further Education, Arts Award and Artsmark, supporting schools to actively engage with Arts Award, Artsmark and the Cultural Education Challenge and our Level 2 and 3 Music courses in partnership with Gateshead College;
- We work in collaboration with Sage Gateshead’s Young Programmers Group, Music Education Hubs, Culture Bridge North-East, and other partners to develop young artists and increase musical, personal, and social outcomes for CYP.
