Senior Speech and Language Therapist

The successful applicant will provide Speech and Language Therapy within each clinical speciality, remaining within each area for 9 months. This will allow the opportunity to develop a wide knowledge base and range of skills, alongside specified learning objectives and ring-fenced learning time to achieve these. In addition, each rotation offers the opportunity to develop broader specialist skills, such as supervision of Band 5 therapists, and tracheostomy and videofluoroscopy competencies.
The acute SLT team works closely with the wider multidisciplinary teams. The SLT service offers a comprehensive supervision and CPD structure with a range of opportunities for learning and participation in both self and service development. There is a strong emphasis on the management of both communication and swallowing difficulties and the impact of SLT within the acute setting. This post requires a flexible approach to working and will require the post holder to work as part of a rota’d seven day working pattern. We provide a weekly videofluoroscopy clinic.
King’s employs 30.9 wte Speech and Language Therapists across our Denmark Hill, Princess Royal and Orpington sites. The PRUH Speech and Language Therapy Team has 11.5 wte from Band 5 to Band 8a. The Speech & Language Therapy team were winners of the at King’s Stars 2019 Exceptional Team of the Year Award, recognising their outstanding contribution to patient care.

The acute rotations on the PRUH site will include cover to the following areas:
- a) Medicine, b) Stroke, c) Respiratory, Surgery & ITU and d) Frailty
Additionally, there is a Neuro rehabilitation rotation at the Orpington Site.
The post holder will provide Speech and Language Therapy services across a range of wards and specialities, remaining within each clinical speciality for 9 months. This will allow them the opportunity to develop a specialist clinical and management skills within the area of adult acute acquired disorders. Line management will be provided by the relevant senior therapist depending on the rotation.
