To provide an efficient and comprehensive domiciliary Phlebotomy Service to patients in Bedfordshire that are unable to access their GP practice to have their blood taken.
Duties may be undertaken in the patient's own homes, Care Home settings or other community locations.
The post holder will be expected to demonstrate initiative, be self-motivated and have the ability to work unsupervised, actioning and prioritising work as delegated.
To adhere to the Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) Code of Conduct, Standards and Competencies.
Communicate effectively and professionally with laboratory staff, hospital staff and other service users, in order to ensure the smooth running of the Phlebotomy Service and to promote a high quality service
To be responsible for organising own time management on a daily basis in line with caseload demands balancing patient needs with the administrative aspect of the role.
To undertake designated duties as required by the Senior Nurse.
Only undertake work which is within own competence and to identify any work required to be undertaken by more senior staff.
To be responsible for using own initiative and be flexible when organising own workload on a day to day basis, which is often unpredictable in order to respond to the needs of the service
development plans as indicated and agreed with the Service Lead.
To use motivational skills to encourage the patient, but will be aware of the issues surrounding patients consent to treatment and will be mindful of the patient’s right to refuse treatment if they wish.
To attend regular staff handover meetings to update to give feedback on activity performed to nursing team
To be able to accommodate change in a rapidly changing environment and embrace necessary change.
