Student Work Experience

Shefford, United Kingdom Central Bedfordshire Council Full time

**What is work experience?**

Work experience is a period of unpaid work, designed to provide an insight into the workplace. Students have the opportunity to complete real life tasks, be involved in conversations, and build a network of contacts in an area of work that they wish to work in. A placement at the Council is an excellent way to learn new skills, find out more about potential career options and gain an understanding of what a Council does.

Work experience is available to students from the age of 15. It can take place at any point in the year and placements can be anything from 1 day to 45 days spread out over the two years of a course, however we may be able to arrange an alternative duration to meet the needs of your education course if the hosting team can accommodate this.

Our main offices are situated near Shefford and in Dunstable with a number of satellite offices and hubs such as libraries. Due to the pandemic a high proportion of CBC staff are working from home. This will be taken into account when teams offer to host a placement with consideration given to Safeguarding and Health & Safety.

Your work experience will give you an opportunity to:

- gain first-hand experience of the workplace and work alongside experienced staff
- gain an insight into the public sector and services we provide
- increase your confidence and skills for future employment
- gain an insight into how your skills and abilities can be used in the workplace

Central Bedfordshire Council has its own vision and values that are integral to everything we do. Our area vision is to make Central Bedfordshire 'A great place to live and work'.

If shortlisted, you may be asked to take part in an informal telephone conversation where we can find out more about you to ensure any placement is tailored to your needs and interests.

Central Bedfordshire Council is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome enquiries from everyone and value diversity in the workplace.
