It’s a very exciting time to join HMRC.
HMRC’s Agents Technical Compliance (AT&C) business area forms part of a wider Customer Compliance Group and is home to our Systems & Data Compliance (S&DC) operational teams.
Our S&DC operational teams consist of Data and Systems Auditors, who provide our Compliance Caseworkers with support on interrogating data and sophisticated accounting systems, to tackle tax non-compliance and electronic sales suppression.
**Job description**:
**About the role**
As a HO Data & Systems Auditor (Tax Compliance), you will support Compliance Caseworkers in carrying out tax investigations into customers records, to identify and address any irregularities or non-compliant behaviour.
Your role within these investigations will be to provide technical systems and data interrogation support, with the intent of tackling non-compliance and electronic sales suppression. To do this you will be required to access, analyse and understand customers' computerised systems, software, and data in relation to their accounts.
You will mentor and coach junior colleagues, building their confidence and skills using your leadership qualities.
This is a vital role within tax compliance where we will provide you with the necessary support and learning needed. Should you have the desire to progress further, we are committed to supporting your personal development.
**What will I be doing?**
Your job will involve:

- identifying and documenting systems and audit trails, including details of the different software used by the customer
- inspecting electronic accounting systems to access relevant data
- lead on in-depth analysis of complex systems and data, using a variety of tools
- testing accuracy of customers' financial accounting and tax liabilities
- creating, reviewing and approving system internal guidance, knowledge on systems, audit techniques and best practice in-line with the systems encountered and audits undertaken
- reconstructing partial data records using best judgement, logic, and available evidence
- producing audit reports to document your findings and recommendations
- providing evidence to support tax evasion referrals and decisions regarding customer behaviours
- supporting and coaching junior auditors with the more complex and technical aspects of their roles
**Training**
All new audit trainees will be placed on the audit learning routeway, which may take up to 19 months to complete. During the initial part of the training period, we will need you to work Monday to Friday within HMRC standard operating hours, for a period of 12 weeks. This is even if you have an agreed Flexible Working Arrangement in place
**Working arrangements**
Here is how we work in Customer Compliance Group (CCG):
- 37 hours between 7am to 8pm Monday to Saturday
- There are several business areas within CCG. You may be required to work outside of these hours if you are allocated to a specific business area
- If you are posted to an area with working arrangements that fall outside of our standard hours, you may be eligible for flexitime
- Further information will be provided during training if this affects you based on the role allocated
- Your working arrangement may change in-line with business needs, and that could include increased weekend or evening working. We will always give you reasonable notice of any changes to your working arrangement
- There may be a requirement for occasional travel with some overnight stays. Some roles may require more frequent travel
Part-time working opportunities (minimum 22 hours per week covering various arrangements during our operating hours) and flexible working arrangements can be requested. It depends on the business area whether these can be agreed, so we’ll work it out on an individual basis.
