PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION The Night Senior Care Assistant is part of the Care Home’s senior management team and is required to professionally lead the care team during each waking night shift, ensuring that a high standard of person centred care is provided to the residents of the Care Home in accordance with their assessed needs. They will ensure that a safe, effective and efficient care service is provided, which enhances the life of each individual. The Night Senior Care Assistant will supervise and support the night care team to create a warm, comfortable, friendly, homely environment for residents, and in accordance with the Care Inspectorate / Care Quality Commission standards, the safeguarding policy and the philosophy of the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Care, Support and Wellbeing 1. To lead, support and supervise the Care Assistants throughout each night shift to ensure that all residents’ needs are met by receiving help and assistance with all aspects of personal care such as showering and bathing, dressing and grooming, dental hygiene, toileting and continence care, as drawn up in their care plan. 2. To encourage and support independence of each resident while maintaining residents’ privacy, dignity and self-esteem, and encourage the night care team to do the same. 3. To treat each resident as an individual, respecting their faith, ethnicity and background, facilitating opportunities for choice. 4. To assist each resident to maximise their potential while understanding the importance of the changing needs of a person’s physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual abilities as they age. 5. To assess, set up and organise the required care, support, rehabilitation or respite care and support plan and programmes for each resident liaising with the manager and ensure that each programme is adhered to. 6. To be alert to the changes in a resident’s physical, emotional, mental and psychological health and wellbeing and ensure the required reviews are undertaken regularly to manage a residents changing condition in liaison with the medical and social care practitioners 2 7. If required at night, to lead and monitor the resident’s mealtimes, ensuring particular attention and support is given to residents with medical and dietary conditions 8. To ensure the key worker program for the residents is undertaken and monitored under the guidance of the Registered Manager. 9. If required at night, to ensure residents activities, interests and hobbies are promoted, encouraged and supported and provide information as to the social needs and abilities of the residents 10. To organise and manage the residents traveling e.g. on emergency hospital visits, appointments etc. Escort residents on such occasions when necessary. 11. To lead and manage the delivery of end of life care liaising with the medical and nursing services. Ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with the Home’s policies and procedures. Health and Safety 1. To ensure a safe, stable, secure and healthy environment is provided for all and to report anything to the contrary to the Manager and maintenance personnel as appropriate. 2. To ensure a high level of competency and diligence with the safe administration of medication to residents in accordance with the Medication Policy and procedures, and supervise and support Care Assistants to do the same. 3. To lead with medication distribution to residents in accordance with the Medication Policies and report any errors or concerns to the Manager and support the Manager with medication audits. 4. To lead the night care team in supervising and monitoring resident’s safety. 5. To ensure that all fire prevention policies and procedures and security management of the home is strictly adhered to and any concerns are immediately reported. 6. To lead on the compliance of a high level of infection and prevention control and on a high level of fire safety and security to be maintained by staff throughout the home. 7. To respond quickly, calmly and effectively to emergencies, following policies and procedures and documentation accurately, supporting the care team involved. 8. To lead on ensuring residents are maximising their mobility in accordance with manual handling procedures as required, and ensure care staff can safely undertake moving and handling. 9. Ensure the residents have the correct support equipment such as wheelchairs, aids or adaptations to maximise their safety and independence. 10. To ensure the care team
