**Role Purpose**:
As a Babcock Defence Support Group (DSG) Weapons Specialist Apprentice you will work on a wide range of Military Land Equipment. The tasks are challenging and varied in an exciting environment producing work which ensures the armed forces have equipment they can depend on.

Apprentices will be trained to an Engineering Industry Standard to achieve a fully accredited Level 3 Qualification. The academic aspects of the apprenticeship will be delivered off-site, the remainder of the time you will work from your selected home location but with the opportunity to work from other sites for short periods to broaden your experience.

All 1st Year Apprentices will also complete a mandatory one week residential training course.

**Main Tasks**:
**The Post Holder has **Responsibility** for**
- Attending college as required to complete full apprentice programme
- Work towards and achieve a Level 3 Apprenticeship
- Complete all required training both on and off site
- Keep a detailed log of tasks undertaken
- Working with your Technical Training Instructor & Apprentice Mentor, an apprentice will be responsible, under supervision, for:

- Inspection of various small arms weapon systems including vehicle mounted equipment
- Maintenance of small arms weapon systems up to level 4 standard
- Replacement of components and units to a wide range of weapon systems and associated equipment
- Identification and repair of faults on weapons, and associated equipment.
- Implementation of fault finding and diagnostic testing
- Correct use of tools and equipment. (including workshop fitted machinery and power tools)
- May involve working in confined spaces and at height
- Correct use of publications in relation to various small arms weapon systems.
- Where required complete Level 2 Key Skills
- Ensure Company health, safety and environmental procedures are implemented and complied with.
- Ensure DSG workshop standards are always implemented and complied with.

**Technical Experience and Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- Full UK Driving Licence
- GCSE Level 4 (Minimum) Maths & English
- Able to demonstrate, through testing, an aptitude and understanding of mechanical or electrical components and engineering including hand skills, and engineering hygiene
- Be capable of carrying out instructions accurately and methodically
- Demonstrate ability to work in a team
- Meticulous attention to detail
