The role
Working closely with the Retirement Solutions Commercial Director, you will play a key role in the development of the Retirement Solutions business by identifying initiatives to improve commercial outcomes and reported metrics. You will develop a forensic understanding of the value drivers within our annuities and mortgages businesses, developing and owning plans to improve financial results through the delivery of management actions. You will provide unique commercial insight to support ideas generation, leading analysis to support initiatives to optimise our balance sheet including assumptions and modelling changes.
What are we looking for?
Our Retirement Solutions business is seeking an experienced senior actuary with a commercial mindset to help drive forward commercial outcomes across annuities and mortgages. As a result, we have a phenomenal opportunity to join our team at an exciting time, as we seek to optimise our approach to support our growth ambition.
You will:
- Develop a forensic understanding of the value drivers within our annuities and mortgages businesses.
- Provide unique commercial insight to support ideas generation for opportunities to optimise assumptions, risk capital requirements and the Matching Adjustment within the context of the regulatory framework and the Phoenix Internal Model.
- Develop and own plans to improve commercial outcomes through the delivery of management actions, assumptions changes and modelling improvements.
- Lead analysis to support balance sheet optimisation initiatives.
- Provide leadership in the delivery of commercial initiatives, from initial feasibility through to implementation, maintaining momentum, managing stakeholders, and ensuring collaboration between teams.
- Provide technical leadership in key areas and represent Retirement Solutions within cross-divisional projects.
- Ensure that entity financial management standards and frameworks support the requirements of Retirement Solutions (e.g. in relation to risk, capital and liquidity budgets).
- Represent Retirement Solutions in influencing and challenging the development of governance frameworks, entity level frameworks, methodologies and assumptions.
- Champion an environment of continuous improvement.
- Engage senior stakeholders to influence and challenge key business decisions.
- Support and develop colleague talent.
- Influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Identify and mitigate financial risk within Retirement Solutions.
We are looking for:
- A commercial actuary with an excellent understanding of the life insurance balance sheet.
- Good knowledge of annuities and the Matching Adjustment.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to come up with creative solutions.
- Experience of leading complex analyses with a focus on balance sheet optimisation.
- A track record of managing complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
