Support Worker

Our client is looking for Weekend Support Workers. Our client is a gentleman in his early 30s with an Acquired Brain Injury incurred at birth. He has Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy/Ataxia which affects his muscles and movement. He is a wheelchair user so the role involves daily moving and handling using the equipment provided. He lives in an adapted self-contained flat within the family home.
The Support Worker role involves providing support and assistance in all areas of his life including full personal care, making sure he looks his best (our client is a very smart dresser), personal admin, cooking, accompanying him to his various activities and ensuring that he follows his care plan to reach his therapy goals.
He has a full programme of weekly activities including wheelchair football, horse riding, boccia, gym, swimming and outdoor cycling. He is also a keen Arsenal supporter and loves going to matches. You will need to be fit, active and willing to follow his schedule. We also welcome you to bring ideas of other activities he may be interested in.
You will support him in helping him to be as independent as possible and make choices of his own.
You will need to remain vigilant throughout your shift to ensure our client’s wellbeing and safety,
Our client is generally happy and settled and is a caring and engaging man with a great sense of humour. However he can become agitated and irritable on occasions. You will need to be able to manage these incidents calmly and respectfully.
To be successful for the Support Worker role - **About You**:
- Ideally you will have experience supporting people with Acquired Brain Injury/CP or similar conditions.
- You will be kind, positive and reliable with a sociable personality who will proactively encourage our client in both his chosen hobbies and others which he might find of interest.
- You will be happy to join our client on days or evenings out; sometimes on your own and other times alongside another support worker (depending on the activity and venue).
- You will need to be a driver; willing and able to drive our client in his own automatic adapted vehicle.
- It would be great if you shared an interest in some of our client’s hobbies but an open attitude to learning about his interests is equally valued.
- You will be comfortable in the company of animals as our client has a small dog.
- You will be a non-smoker / non-vaper.
**Pay**:
£16 per hour weekdays
