**Job Title: Head of Schemes Underwriting**

**Location: Gloucester**

**Salary: Commensurate with experience plus a good range of benefits**

**Duration: Permanent**

**Hours: 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday**

**Key accountabilities**:

- Lead and manage teams to ensure sustainable profitable growth and retention of business in accordance with underwriting strategy and in line with the Business Plan
- Own and proactively develop commercially successful and productive relationships with Brokers and, where appropriate, other intermediaries
- Promote Ecclesiastical’s brand, values and reputation in its markets and with customers, suppliers and partners by having a visible and credible market presence in order to enhance achievement of the Business Plan
- Development and coaching of team members
- Instilling high performance of team members
- Timely and appropriate quality control checks
- Design and delivery of training material
- Act as an underwriting referral point for the team and cascade technical expertise
- Act as a market representative for the team
- Understand and operate within regulatory framework and identify and escalate any risks to the business
- Resolve breaches in line with company policy
- Promote other corporate value added services such as Enterprise Risk Management
- Actively expand personal, technical and niche knowledge both informally (networking internally and externally, internet, industry press) and formally (In-house training, CII, CPD)
- Leading the Schemes Technical Teams including overall service delivery acting as escalation point
- Account performance/development
- Key case/distressed case management
- Innovation and continuous improvement
- Profit and Loss responsibility for Schemes account
- Risk control and claims interventions strategies

**Key performance indicators**:

- Delivery of COR target
- Delivery of retention target
- Delivery of GWP targets
- Quality of business/UW decisions made
- Delivery of pricing reviews
- Utilisation of CRM system to plan, monitor and deliver agreed activity levels
- Retention or improvement of Staff survey results in line with agreed annual objectives
- Increased level of technical competency within the team
- Activity and effective presence at key insurance and related sector events e.g ABI, BIBA

**Knowledge, skills and experience**:

- ACII
- Critical thinking skills (will be tested)
- Proven track record in a senior underwriter and management/leadership role
- Schemes experience & knowledge preferable
- Proven track record of leading high performing teams
- Proven confident and influential communicator at all levels
- The ability to coach for enhanced performance of others
- Significant experience of building and maintaining co-operative and productive relationships at all levels
- Positive, proactive, enthusiastic and value driven individual with a proven “can-do” attitude

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
