Job Purpose:

- To undertake parenting support and assessment programme with families experiencing significant difficulties, including kinship carers and foster carers.
- To undertake direct work with children and young people to meet their identified need.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This post will support social workers to undertake thorough community family assessments, and where appropriate complete these, of children and prepare any necessary and relevant reports, and undertake reviews (as relevant) and specific pieces of work identified within the assessment.
- To ensure Assessments are completed in line with the Framework Assessment.
- To promote parenting skills through group work and to contribute to a programme of group work with parents experiencing difficulty in managing their children.
- To advise, guide and train parents in managing household affairs, practical child care tasks, and other means of providing for the care of children. This may involve flexible work patterns including early mornings, early evenings and occasionally weekends.
- To make observations with regard to the standards of care, and participate fully in the identification of possible abuse/injury/neglect of children and provide reports on such observations to social workers. To supervise, observe and monitor contact visits when parents are visiting children who are looked after when appropriate to assessment.
- To co-ordinate self help activities for parents/carers/young people.
- To contribute to and complete Core Assessments relating to specific parenting skills, as relevant.
- To attend Case Conferences, Core group and other meetings as the worker involved with the family.
- To maintain accurate and up-to-date manual and electronic records as required by the department.
- To provide necessary transport for children/young people and parents/carers where the Support and Assessment worker or social care is actively involved in working with the family.
- To undertake requested Life Story and direct work to extend their learning opportunities.
- To be prepared for and participate in supervision compliant with CYPS
- Supervision policy and procedure and with the Manager at annual PDR and mid year review their individual and developmental needs.
- To meet Children’s Workforce development Confederation Induction Standards.
- To be responsible for carrying out all the duties of the job in accordance with the County Councils Equal Opportunities Policy.
- To undertake such other duties as are within the scope of the job purpose, the title of the job and its grading.

**_SPECIAL FACTORS_**:
(a) The nature of the work may involve the postholder carrying out work outside of normal working hours.

(b) The postholder may be required to attend, from time to time, training courses, conferences, seminars or other meetings as required by his/her own training needs and the needs of the service.

(c) Expenses will be paid in accordance with company procedures

(d) As this post is designated as a ‘Regulated Activity’ or is an exempt position under the Rehabilitation of offenders Act an enhanced DBS is essential. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure this is reviewed every three years and kept up to date.

(e) To work in accordance with General Social Care Councils Code of Practice for Social Care Workers

(f) To respect at all times the confidential nature of the CYPS work.

(g) To undertake duties of the job in accordance with relevant legislative requirements, Health and Safety, LSCB and CYPS policies and procedures

**_Essential Qualifications_**

Level 3 Childcare qualification (NNEB/NVQ3) or equivalent

First Aid Training

Basic Food Hygiene
