We have an excellent opportunity for a friendly, personable and approachable Matron to join our ‘Excellent in Every Aspect’ rated Independent day and boarding School. The role will be Matron to Manor House, the Day House for girls between Year’s 9 to 12. Manor is proud of its friendly and happy atmosphere, with a diverse and varied range of talents. Manor aims to be a home away from home to prepare pupils not only for their exams, but for life beyond Felsted.

The role of Matron is to become an integral member of the House team in supporting the Housemistress in the pastoral, welfare and safeguarding of pupils, in order to provide a stable, non-judgmental environment for students to encourage a feeling of trust. Safeguarding is of paramount importance, as is confidentiality for when information needs to be passed on and also when a pupil needs more specialist support around sensitive issues that should be clearly understood. A Matron’s role is not a disciplinary one and is expected to be a visible presence, whether helping to run the House or by being available if students need someone to talk to. In addition to the pastoral care, the Matron oversees the Domestic team and cleaning schedules within their boarding house, with Domestic duties as part of the role.

The successful applicant will have a clear understanding of pastoral care provisions, a compassionate and welcoming predisposition and be able to connect to all personnel within the School to build effective and professional working relationships. It is essential that applicants have experience within a pastoral capacity, are confident using computers and willing to provide a ‘can-do’ approach to student welfare, customer service and working with young people.

This is a permanent, term-time role working 37.5 hours per week on the following schedule:

- Mondays: 7am - 2pm Matron (inclusive of 30 minute unpaid break)
- Tuesdays: 7am - 2pm Matron (inclusive of 30 minute unpaid break)
- Wednesdays: 7am - 5pm Matron (inclusive of 60 minute unpaid break)
- Thursdays: 7am - 2pm Matron (inclusive of 30 minute unpaid break)
- Fridays: 7am - 5pm Matron (inclusive of 60 minute unpaid break)

The first hour of each day (7am - 8am) are Domestic Assistant duties (34 weeks), with Matron duties from 8am (38.1 weeks).

Working term-time, plus 6 core days and 14.5 activity days, totalling (38.1 weeks per year)
