**Summary**:
Do you have previous administrative experience and understanding of working with, and handling sensitive information?

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated **Security Advisor** to join us at the UK Hydrographic Office. The role sits within our Security and Resilience team and provides a secure environment that protects our people as well as our physical and information assets.

Reporting to the Deputy Principal Security Advisor, you will support the organisation’s security obligations and assurance to the Board and its Executive Leadership Team on the effectiveness of our security and resilience measures in line with government and departmental requirements. You will do this by ensuring that security is seen as an enabler rather than an obstacle and creating and maintaining proactive and positive working relationships, providing professional support and guidance to business areas, and working with external stakeholders to help meet MOD and wider government security obligations, whilst balancing this against achieving appropriate customer outcomes.

**Job description**:
As our Security Advisor you will be involved in:
Monitoring compliance with UKHO and MOD policy plays a large part of the role. You will conduct regular spot checks of sensitive assets against departmental records at prescribed intervals in accordance with current MOD security policy, documenting findings and bringing any anomalies to the attention of holders and managers to follow-up as necessary.

You will conduct monthly audits of site pass and access control records, ensuring that records are synchronised, and any cancelled/superseded passes are recovered without delay and removed from the live records. You will also maintain an accurate register of security furniture, including container master codes and combination changes, issuing reminders when these are due to be changed.

As the key focal point for processing standard visit requests to the UKHO site, you will monitor the online visitor portal, liaise with internal hosts, conduct checks of visitor security clearances with vetting authorities and other external stakeholders as necessary, approve visits once verified and update the visitor database as appropriate. In addition, you will provide confirmation of clearance information for UKHO personnel visiting other units as required.

You will be the primary point of contact for managing day to day requests for overseas travel where this has security implications. Duties will include reviewing requests for business and private travel, completing business traveller security clearance information, conducting pre and post travel security briefings and maintaining departmental records.

Certain aspects of the role require your attendance on various MOD training courses before you can undertake the full range of duties (currently 2 separate residential courses over 5 days in total). Such activities might include supporting the Custodian with the receipt, issue, muster and disposal of sensitive assets as well as handling collections, deliveries and preparing items for despatch by secure courier delivery services.

The Security Advisor role is at the Awareness level within the Government Security Career Framework - Protective Security

**Responsibilities**:
As our Security Advisor you will:

- Manage routine visitor requests via the visitor booking portal, liaise with hosts, conduct checks of visitor security clearances with vetting authorities where necessary, approve visits once verified and update the visitor database as appropriate.
- Undertake regular audits of Protected Document Registers (PDRs) against physical holdings at prescribed intervals in accordance with current security policy. Report findings and bring any anomalies to the attention of the line manager and Principal Security Advisor.
- Day to day responsibility for managing overseas travel requests, including reviewing requests for business and private travel, completing traveller security clearance information, conducting pre and post travel briefings, issuing and recovering emergency grab bags and maintaining an overseas travel database.
- Conduct monthly audits of site security pass and access control records, ensuring records are synchronised and any cancelled/superseded passes are recovered without delay and removed from the live records.
- Maintain a register of security furniture including container master codes and
