**Title**: Ground Worker
**Reports to & role within DLC**: Reporting directly to your Charge Hand / Working Supervisor / Senior Supervisor daily and Site / Project Manager on site and ultimately to the Managing Director.
**Job Purpose**: A DLC Ground Worker are part of a team that carries out initial site work and operates heavy plant on our construction sites. They can help deliver work on time and within budget, projects that far exceed client expectations. They must plan, organize and manage work to reach goals and employ best strategies for achieving desired results. They can adapt to changing needs, conditions, and work responsibilities. Our Ground Worker effectively cultivate good team and group dynamics, demonstrate the technical and practical expertise for successful project completion, and display an ongoing commitment to learning and self-improvement.
**Key Responsibilities and accountabilities**:
All reasonable duties expected of a Ground Worker assisted/monitored by the Charge Hand / Working Supervisor or Senior Supervisor, including the following:
- Assist in reviewing project drawings and specifications to gain a full understanding of project scope, client goals and expectations, and resource requirements for each phase of the project.
- Resolve worksite issues quickly and effectively in order to keep work progress on track.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Report any conditions including weather, work scope, work force levels, and safety issues.
- Complete any of snag-lists, close-out documentation, and demobilize the job site at the completion of a project.
- Ensure quality control is maintained at all times and records maintained.
- Materials orders — calling off building and construction materials on a day-today basis.
- Liaison with the Charge Hand / Working Supervisor / Senior Supervisor - obtaining daily _I _weekly work schedules to complete works in accordance with the construction programme, including:
- Health and Safety matters (maintain safety standards in accordance with Company Safety Policy and relevant Method Statements).
- Labour, plant and materials co-ordination (plant and material sheets) carrying out variation orders / additional works with on-site resources.
- Obtaining memos, company notices etc. and transferring this information to the relative parties on site.
- Ensure Start of shift briefings are attended and signed for, 2minute risks assessments, toolbox talks are attended and signed for, vehicle checks, PUWER / LOLER checks, fencing/barrier/excavation checks are completed. Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome sheets and quality control sheets are completed. Monitor the use of correct PPE for working party members and ensure compliance. Report all accidents and near misses. Attend site meetings as required. Permits are obtained and briefed to working party. PICWP duties to working party members.
- To undertake necessary training as and when required, in accordance with Health & Safety regulations and Company requirements.
- Carry out manual handling activities. Be able to work at height and conduct work with proper safety restraints.
- Dig and excavations by hand or machine of pits, trenches and foundations in preparation for site construction works and back fill.
- Install and lay various drainage items, steel reinforcing, making cages, kerbs, slabs, stone, install shuttering, laying concrete, remove timber shutters etc.
- Operate heavy plant and machinery including construction vehicles and small hand tools. Use of abrasive wheels and power tools.
- Direct traffic when necessary to ensure safety of pedestrians, motorists and workforce.
- Setting out areas using engineering equipment dumpy/laser levels etc.
- Carrying out demolition works, installing barriers / fencing.
- Any other duties that the Company may require you carryout in relation to your role.
**Education, Experience & Training**: A Ground Worker should possess basic training suited to their role and leading towards further education and training to a higher standard. Skilled Operative / Ground Workers should possess the following training/education:
- Site Safety Card (CCNSG Safety Passport / CITB H&S Awareness)
- CSCS Card for relevant skill.
- 1st Aid at Work.
- PICWP Training.
- Relevant training for hand tools / power tools.
- Various Plant / Equipment Training - Telehandler, Excavator, Dumper, Roller, MEWP etc (CPCS Level Desirable).
- Other training (Manual Handling, Asbestos Awareness, Streetworks, Confined Space, Safety Harness, Banksman etc).
- Experience in the position or similar role.
Other
- Own transport & valid driving licence preferred.
*Proof of Right to Work in UK required.
